Waterline Trail. There are a couple limestone slots like this one that appear to be blasted or something. Maybe by miners. Click image for larger version.

Most of that trail does follow the grade of the old Orofino waterline, so I’d imagine that’s the reason for those gaps. There was another ditch lower on the hillside that shows up well in old photos. It’s still there on the level stretch of the Acropolis Trail that runs over into Pine Street.

No pics to brag with...but I just did 61.9 mph on my gravel bike coming down Teton Pass. It may not be the fastest i have ever gone, but it felt damn smokin’. 38 file tread tires, Felt SO stable compared to 25’s or whatever. Top gear 11/48, but I don’t think that matters at those coasting speeds.

It was incredible, zero traffic in both lanes. Got passed by one hothead in a Mustang going probably 75-80 on the straightaway to the howitzer platform. Only car.

And I am still only 54 all time for the section! (But there are pedaly sections where I was spun out down low)

The main parking lot for this trail is still closed for pandemic reasons. It's usually too busy with hikers to really be fun but I didn't see a single person on it last night. It was almost like a country club day in little cottonwood. Click image for larger version.

What’s the situation with the shuttles? It seems a little weird to cram a bunch of strangers in an enclosed space right now. Business as usual, or are there protocols?

Not very long. It dropped bunny and slithered into the bushes rattling away so I took my chance to get past. Didn't see much point in sticking around.

Vigilante is running van shuttles for quaranteams and sanitizing between engagements. He’s a nurse at his day job, so he knows what he’s doing. Details should be on their social media.

I think he’s just doing private engagements. I haven’t heard what’s happening with the Bike Helena free shuttle service. He took that on for this year with the Huckwagon trailer. What that looks like in 2020 I don’t know.

So went over the bars a couple weeks ago. Now I’m in the market for knee pads. Is there one that can prevent your levers from gaffing you?

    Yeeeew.

I have some overkill poc knee/shin pads that would have done the trick

Jam some bacon strips lathered in chain wax or Phil’s grease to stop the bleeding

X-post from the gravel thread. Damn fine out there today. Note to self: Put sunscreen on your legs for a 6 hour ride.

seems like it would be above the knee pad especially since with the mechanics of the situation as you go over the bars the levers enter from the direction away from the knee

Fair point about coverage, so maybe the much-loved POCs would be short there. But anything thicker than lycra should keep a brake lever out, shouldn't it? Hopefully. The '18 thread still has good options and now I'm kinda interested in a pair of the new cheapos.

Thanks for the reminder--lately I've been trying to talk myself out of pads on a couple warm days.

Yeah I was thinking the POCs or BERNs would be too short but it looks like most of the other stuff should work

Damn that’s brutal pow dork. I use race face ambush knee pads, might block that spot.
