21 miles up in the Cabinets of N Idaho with @LVS. Didn’t run into any KKK but sure had a hell of a lot of fun!! 11 miles of hike-a-bike through snow and over a million downed trees!

    Good stuff here!

Joetron, if you want some extra credit on Engineer, a great option is continue on CT past Rolling pass to White Creek, back to Engineer Mtn Trail. There's a short and stupid steep HAB at the start of White but after that it is nice, and you get a bonus descent on CT.

Molas to Engineer was on the list for this year.... Looks amazing.

Basalt Mtn is completely going off with flowers in the burn areas.

Nice, that was one of my favorite rides last year. Where was the snow? I would think there wouldn't be much left

Just a few tiny patches here and there near the lookout. It was an unexpected treat to see and feel snow underfoot!

The University and state park service could work with the local trail organization to legitimize and improve the trails to reduce erosion. But they'd rather just say they're illegal and hand out tickets, which I guess generates some revenue for the state but doesn't seem to reduce the usage or digging at all.

Completely agree with you. It would be nice to be sensible about the trails, however many of the trails in there now are not sustainable and would not meet current trail design criteria. The cost associated with those trails at $5-6 per foot is woefully low (4 years old). Now its at least double that. Permitting and CEQA alone would be about 30K a mile. I am UCSC graduate and been riding on campus since 1987. I am also a civil engineer that does a lot of trail planning and design. The trail use, erosion problems and ancillary trails are quickly increasing and getting worse. Sources such as this forum, trail forks, and other social media only make these trails more popular and ultimately exacerbate the problems. Clearly the solution is to plan and execute a well designed trail plan and system. It could be way cool and be a positive impact for the watershed and the community. Maybe that will happen soon but I do not know of any serious, funded efforts in that regards.

I think bikers need to be aware of their impacts and secondary impacts and look to their own personal conduct and make their use decisions for themselves. But fuck, it does make for a cool video.

Anyone here live around CDA? Been riding some crazy trails that aren’t on trailforks. Moto stuff but some of these descents would be so fun on a bike. Wondering if locals know and they just aren’t on TF or if these are being kept secret by the moto guys.

Few weeks back did a nice big, dumb ride. 104 miles, ~16,600 feet of climbing, 14.5 hours moving time. Doing this once a year really scratches the itch and takes some edge off, doubly so this year.

Got a buddy to ride it with me this year. Among the many things that were said: "this comes from a place of love, but I don't want to be around you anymore", "am I okay? Fuck you!", and of course more than one standalone "fuck you!" He'll be back next year for sure, already told me as much.
