I organized another trip up to Downieville. In prior years, mid-October is perfect as the temps cool down a bit and there's usually been the first rain or two to tack down the dust. No luck on moisture this year, but temps were milder than the summer and the weather was beautiful. First day we went out on Gold Valley, then biked/hiked up to the top of Big Boulder. Second day, one of the guys joined us with a couple of his teenage boys, so we initiated them with a 7am trip up to the fire lookout tower (elev. 8500 ft). They had a blast though, and every trail we did on the way down they liked even more than the last.

The kids were troopers going up to the tower, and celebrated in proper kid fashion by peeing off the tower.

Damn! Nice work. We're still at the Klonzo and Bar M stages, want to add something else in and was wondering about the practice loop... I haven't done slickrock in almost 2 decades though.....

the practice loop still has some stiff-ish climbs (and steeper downs) but the little kids could always walk or ride around. we started doing Getaway shuttles after graduating from the Klonzo stuff.

Basically the riding is split into two parts: the bike park, and the rest of the mountain. You can either buy a park lift pass, or the more expensive all-mountain pass.

We started off in the Fiss bike park, which is one of the most popular in Tirol among the sendy crowd but is only a tiny part of the bike offering in the area. Most of the runs are fairly short, around the ~300m vert mark, but lots going on in them. Generally either fast flowing jump lines, which tbh are not really my thing as I don't know how to jump properly haha, but lots of big but well-shaped jumps as well as funkier features like hut-roof-drops (waaay beyond my level); or chunky natural stuff (trails named Supernatural etc) which I really enjoyed but surprised me a few fair times, with one or two rowdy corners I had to walk.

After sessioning the park, we went to check out what turned out to be some genuinely glorious natural single track + lightly shaped trails - and as a bonus we had the place to ourselves with NO-ONE else on the trails.

First up the Schönjochbahn lift to Fisserjoch at 2436m, from where you traverse the looovely 7115 (red, natural single track) trail over towards the Serfaus side.
Thank you for the Austria hit. I'd thought much of the singletrail was forbidden

Spent last week in the Mendocino area and brought our gravel bikes for a few rides. These are from an out and back up Big River Haul Road to Mendocino Woodlands.
