I mean, if you are gonna name a trail "Flash of Gold" then it's got something to live up to. Steamboat delivered I guess.

First time riding in American Fork canyon. One more week and the colors will be BRIGHT. Temps don't feel like fall, but sure looks like it.
That scenery is all time. Can't wait to go back after we get some rain. The dust was pretty insane.

^nice. you've been road biking a ton more this summer huh?
    perfect riding temps right now

hit my favorite trail in the valley Arrow> Phillips Canyon
Saw a hunter that got a bull moose that am and was quartering it right next to the trail. neat but wow it really got my heart rate up when we came around the corner to see a bloody moose ribcage and head right there. Funny thing is that some friends were riding a bit behind us and they never even noticed it riding by
which makes me wonder how many (living) moose, bears etc we ride by without noticing

I try to pay attention but I have wondered the same thing a bunch of times, most noticeably last year when my daughter buzzed right past a black bear without even knowing it was about 20 feet from her right in front of me. The bear got spooked and took off down the hill away from the trail after she went by so I didn't have to deal with it. ... I have a hard time believing that last bit there

All the time I'm sure. I remember reading somewhere that in the majority of bear attacks (and close calls?) the people don't see the bear until it's like 10-15 feet away. Might have been in death in yellowstone.

Closest bear encounter I had wasn't 10 feet, but well under 100 I'd say. Was just up in our main recreation area a few miles on the doubletrack road on my cx bike, turned onto a little short side trail that goes right back onto the road and hear a noise to my right. Look over, mama bear is running at me, baby bear going up a tree. I started to dismount to like get the bike up between us, yelled "hey" really loud, bear stopped, I kept rolling and was back on the main road like nothing happened. Scary couple of seconds.

If I'm somewhere a little more remote and alone I play music out loud from the phone, maybe that helps. Recently I was down in a valley, fairly dense bush, some running water, berries, bear shit all over the trail, and I'm thinking, yeah, there are probably a few bears nearby. And actually we saw a mtn lion later on that ride. First one I've ever seen. Sure plenty have seen me.

Anyway here's the most recent picture I took on a ride

    probably went by some wildlife.

Not sure if you were catching my drift. Perfect, as in perfect cycling trail. Though the dust has been spectacular, as well.
And Scrublover, you actually make me want to ride CT. Seriously.

Well, I simply have been riding a ton more this summer...last week was Henderson Canyon loops on Monday, Grove/RedCorral/Drake on Thursday, Nemos/grumpys/Lady Slipper/Pole Canyon/Mike Sell on Saturday, and TRghee DH on Sunday. Brought my fork in to Hoffs Monday, so it will be road for a few days...
