Ya, that place is a trip. I’m not sure what it’s current status is but (heard Phillip Morris is out...). I always imagined overweight people riding horses with their oxygen tanks out there.

Pretty sure I ran this guy over. Thought “holy shit, Copperhead!” as I did so. Went back to see if it was alright. Several strikes and a quick slink into the woods answered that question.

When I was about 10 my mom intentionally ran over a copperhead with the car (she got bitten as a kid and never forgave the species), and when she stopped with the front tire on the snake, its flexing made the steering wheel turn back and forth. Neighbor saw the happenings and came out with a rifle and had to finish the job. We had always called that particular stretch of our road copperhead hollow. No point in sharing this other than to convey that I doubt a bike tire could hurt one of those muscular bastards.

Yeah, had a few friends who have worked there. One was a mtb "guide". Riding flat 2 tracks with fat fucks wheezing for about a hundred yards before turning back to the lodge. Also had a buddy who picked up the clients from airport and they went straight to the old cowboy shop near hastings to get fully outfitted. Place is a trip.

Sorry to cunt up thread but my rims broke so no riding for me.

This page kicks some serious ass!

    Couple of recent pics.

These I took yesterday after a 'ride' (1600 foot Hike-a-bike) that i hadn't done since a massive wildfire a few years ago. I couldn't believe how much burned, but the regeneration is beginning. Some trails in there will never be rideable again.

totally fun, though, deep in Grizzly country.

and this is from Whitefish. Pretty country up there.

More new trail to me, on the CDT in the Centennials. Our buddy has a chainsaw rack on his fat bike so we ride and clear trail as we go. Amazing terrain. Could just see the Tetons in the distance.

Maiden voyage on the new gravel/fire road shredder. Just finished building it up. Climbs much better than my full sus (obviously). Should get plenty of use here in Marin.

That faint trail and tree look familiar -- Keg Springs to Blair Lake overlook? -- or was that over to the west (Cottonwood Ching Creek area?)

When I was scouting Aldous/Hancock lakes last summer, I saw my first wolf outside YNP who crossed the road at 30MPH just before I parked the car at the trailhead...

I NEED to get back over there before snowfall to check out Salamander, Coal Mine, Trail Creek area:

And a very creative solution to keep bikes from hitting each other.

Hi Montana Rider- those pics were from Coal Mine to Aldous Lake. A great ride, but a relatively long shuttle. If you go with one vehicle, I'd ride Coal Mine to Salamander or Coal Mine to Mule Meadows. We also did a Pete Creek to Bear Gulch (further west) earlier this year- cleared both with the chainsaw and hand saws.

Keg Springs to Taylor Fork is really fun too. Easy enough to do with one rig if you don't mind the 5-mile 2-track up to the Keg Springs trailhead.

Later this Sept we are going to run a big shuttle and ride from Keg Springs to Aldous Lake- the section from Taylor Fork to Aldous Lake east is the only part I haven't ridden.

Cool that you saw a wolf- not surprising though. We have seen a fair amount of bear poop, but I bet the chainsaw noise warns them off pretty quick.

This is on my list now too: https://www.trailforks.com/trails/cdt-three-mile-ridge/

And we're headed to the Tobacco Roots for this coming weekend. Anyone else?

You've got my approval. Pedal bikes are no where near as fun as a moto.
