I do that too (except the stem). Heard its supposed to prevent major damage when they spin in a fall (especially to hydraulic brakes), but that's in a case where it's hitting a rock at a perpendicular angle rather than poking into soft parts

Whoa, where's that second pic? Is that one of the new ones?

    Here are some mediocre pictures.
I really like wildflowers. These pics don't do justice to how crazy they are going off right now.
The best I've seen so far are right bellow the Marshal Grade Road on the switchbacks if you go right then left to top Woods Gulch. All the colors simultaneously.
Just have to wait out some more rain now :/Click image for larger version.

Got out on the rebuilt "Sawpit" trail in Santa Cruz. Pretty fun. Built natural and through the redwoods.

Few pictures from Sun Valley, taken earlier this afternoon. It was supposed to be 41 and snowy, instead it was mid-50s and sunny. Yesterday we rode a big double loop in Greenhorn Gulch, and it may have been the best dirt I've ever ridden.

I went to go check out this new one. Very fun trail, interestingly they placed offset logs to force slight sharp S turns to control downhill speed in about 20 places, worked but kinda was a pain in the ass.
