This section of trail is being rerouted... need to find the new top to ensure it has a good view.

Go forth and ride, then bring back pics

Had to work near Blacksburg last week. Finished up early, so made a run for GWNF. Had to stop at Carvins Cove on the way.

Trough or OG? The answer is both. With a second lap down OG/Gauntlet cause so so good.

I don’t know about best, but not bad for right off the interstate.

Set up in Stokesville. There are better sites for hanging out, but this is the spot for the sunrise wake up (which I slept through). Massanutten Mtn in the hazy distance.

Should be easy. There are dispersed sites all over the area, and a couple primitive campgrounds. NF camping is free unless you're at a campground (North River, Todd Lake). There are dispersed sites out FR95 that are right on the North River. If you camp down at Braley, you're not far from the Calfpasture, and are by the Braley Branch. I'm assuming you're asking for fishing? Stokesville Campground is the fancier option. They should have plenty of tent sites available. If there's not an event, they should also have hook-ups, but I'd email.

I usually camp at Stokesville. Tent sites are pretty cheap, $15/night for the first person and additional for additional people, but I can't remember how much. It's not on their site, it's all listed in their email response. Water and showers and access to the trail around the campground and the swimming hole under the bridge by the campground. You can ride from the campground, and access most of the good stuff from there depending on how much mileage you want to put in.

BTW, If your ride plans include anything off Tillman Rd, keep in mind that the road is closed at Hearthstone Lake. You can probably get through on a bike on weekends or off hours, but not while they're working.

Went for a dual ride today to check out conditions and enjoy overcast and decent temps

    Still some flowers out there

Urban invasives are sometimes nicer than the wild flowers

Second ride was further out. I like this place in the evening. Usually very few people out

There's some nice tech riding like this line

Part of the reason for riding both was to check out how overgrown they've gotten. Both are bad in spots with all the rain we've had and temps now starting to warm up. Lots of poison oak on the first ride.

It's a black snake, King or Rat I think. Not poisonous, but they can be aggressive. They vibrate their tales against the leaves to simulate a rattle, which is cool once you realize it's not a rattler.

Thanks so much man! Not so much for fishing as just for splashing around after a ride and washing my dirtbag self off. Great beta, gonna head down end of June

Nice. I look forward to the after-ride swim almost as much as the ride itself. The swimming hole by the campground is great (despite the Mem Day trash the hillbillies left behind), but you can find little holes to dip into all over the place.

Holler when you're heading down, we might be there if it's a weekend.

Mmmm... that trail's fun. But the climb sucks. Did you hitch a ride with one of the parasail companies?
