This is from the previous weekend, but worth posting. Got out of town and did a couple rides...

Saturday evening - hit up Idyllwild

Nice view of San Jacintos on the climb

Come around a corner to this view, incredible

    Awesome sunset....

On Sunday wanted to do some high elevation recon to see how much snow remained. The answer....not much

Snow line across the valley is around 10k. Did a self shuttle, climbed 3k feet to the summit then about 30 mi of singletrack to the end point.

Sugarloaf peak is 9,952 so minimal snow here. A few patches visible on the north side, just 1 patch on the trail. Quite a few hikers headed up there. Summit shot:

Came across this tiny baby rattler. About 8" long but fat, must have just caught its first meal. Shooed it off the trail so it wouldn't get run over.

Miles of singletrack like this, much with greater exposure

Cool section with some cedar trees

    And another nice sunset!

Went for a ride yesterday up the mtn to see how the trails were faring. It's amazing how good it feels to see trails you've worked on come out of the snow looking pimp. Last year there was so much snow it took us 3 weeks of work just clearing snow off the trails to get open mid July. Quite a different story this year with the San Juan at about 30 percent of normal snowpack, things are opening up early. First time back on the hill since I busted my arm, felt so good to get back out there, as you can see from pic 3, still a bit of snow out there.

This last picture of this nondescript corner was the scene of the crime. Open compound fracture of radius and ulna last time I was here. Felt so good to cruise by this bitch again.

Waterline Trail. There are a couple limestone slots like this one that appear to be blasted or something. Maybe by miners. Click image for larger version.

Most of that trail does follow the grade of the old Orofino waterline, so Iíd imagine thatís the reason for those gaps. There was another ditch lower on the hillside that shows up well in old photos. Itís still there on the level stretch of the Acropolis Trail that runs over into Pine Street.

No pics to brag with...but I just did 61.9 mph on my gravel bike coming down Teton Pass. It may not be the fastest i have ever gone, but it felt damn smokin’. 38 file tread tires, Felt SO stable compared to 25’s or whatever. Top gear 11/48, but I don’t think that matters at those coasting speeds.

It was incredible, zero traffic in both lanes. Got passed by one hothead in a Mustang going probably 75-80 on the straightaway to the howitzer platform. Only car.

And I am still only 54 all time for the section! (But there are pedaly sections where I was spun out down low)

Wow that snake pic is nuts! How long did you stay and watch?

The main parking lot for this trail is still closed for pandemic reasons. It's usually too busy with hikers to really be fun but I didn't see a single person on it last night. It was almost like a country club day in little cottonwood. Click image for larger version.

What’s the situation with the shuttles? It seems a little weird to cram a bunch of strangers in an enclosed space right now. Business as usual, or are there protocols?

Not very long. It dropped bunny and slithered into the bushes rattling away so I took my chance to get past. Didn't see much point in sticking around.

Vigilante is running van shuttles for quaranteams and sanitizing between engagements. Heís a nurse at his day job, so he knows what heís doing. Details should be on their social media.

I think heís just doing private engagements. I havenít heard whatís happening with the Bike Helena free shuttle service. He took that on for this year with the Huckwagon trailer. What that looks like in 2020 I donít know.

So went over the bars a couple weeks ago. Now Iím in the market for knee pads. Is there one that can prevent your levers from gaffing you?

    Yeeeew.

I have some overkill poc knee/shin pads that would have done the trick

Jam some bacon strips lathered in chain wax or Philís grease to stop the bleeding

seems like it would be above the knee pad especially since with the mechanics of the situation as you go over the bars the levers enter from the direction away from the knee
