Ha. I am right in the middle of where you were in the “extra back story”. I am lookkng at all the same bikes but the izzo is hard to ignore with the parts spec.
    Thanks for the info!

For sure. I’ve got a buddy who’s been in parallel to me but decided to wait out for a Spesh , then a Spur and now a Ranger - all that he’s had on order. A lightly used Ranger just fell into his lap so the saga is over.

I knew that anything I spent $5000-7000 as a short travel 29er was going to be a move in the right direction for me. And when the bike showed up 10 days after ordering it, the deal was sealed.

The updated Izzo builds are a small downgrade for a higher price (same as every other brand), but still major value for the $$$. I’m glad they ditched the lockout.

I'm just biking as my pit stops. We are on a family trip, Kids and wife flew to Kentucky, I drove.
Headed to Monticello, NY this afternoon (won't get there until tomorrow) to see my side of the family. Kids and wife will fly back and I'll start driving.

Yikes. That's a road crash. Heal up man. Any damage to the noggin?

Helmet looks like mine from 4 weeks ago. I'm a POC fan for life after this.

    From worst to first:
    -Brain bleed,
    -Partially collapsed lung,
    -concussion
    -5 broken ribs
    -7 stitches
-various cuts, bruises, scrapes, and road rash.

But all that considered, I'm ok-ish.

Hit a pothole at 35-40…definitely road crash.

Road riding is fucking terrifying to me. Y'all are nuts... I'd much rather land on some dirt & rocks at 1/4-1/2 that speed.

looks like an area I scouted to ski on Google Earth....not sure if there was ever enough snow to make it worthwhile on a regular year. But looks rad to bike!

Pro tip - yer supposed to keep the helmet side above the tire side at all times.

Another pro tip - POC helmets have a crash replacement discount. Same with Giro.

When I was in ER ~10 years ago with a concussion after MTB crash, doc said “be sure to replace your helmet”.
“For sure, and Giro gives you a discount on crash replacement”
“It’s really sad that you know that” she said.

I will 100% not be wearing that helmet. I’m giving it to the neighbors kids!

I’m joking. But I am gonna hang it on a wall out something.

Damn, glad to hear you're okay-ish for the most part. At least, you haven't lost your sense of humor. I wish you a full recovery and hopefully speedy, but don't rush it especially with a brain injury.

With the high temps and 1-yr old at home, I've found odd hours have been working best for me this year. Last night was a real treat with what turned into a slow burn sunset followed by cool temps for a 3000 foot descent down the bird.
