Heat wave just in time for the weekend. Did a local ride near the water, still hit 90 by the end

Haven't ridden some of these in a while. New bridge...

Another new bridge. I built the crossing on the right years ago but the rock crossing below the ramp got blown out over the winter. Some one built a pretty solid replacement

    Some wildlife...

Imagine a 150km road ride, 10km with traffic, 80km with maybe 40 vehicles total, and 60 more totally closed off to cars, gradual gain of vert on the way out, loss on the way back. Love this 30 degree heat and such a score this summer with Highway 1A between Banff and Lake Louise being shut down.

Wow. I had no idea. Why is it shut down? Being from just south of you in Montana, I've driven that road. I can't imagine what that would be like on a bike without any cars...

Covid related but really I have no idea what the prerogative is. Only the first half from Banff to Castle is actually closed, and very few are driving Castle to Louise. They’re probably keeping Park staff to a minimum so as not to have to service any of the stops but there’s so little there and they had multiple staff parked at either end.

A little more sightseeing than riding hard for reasons which will appear obvious...

The 8yo turned me down for a shuttled downhill ride but the 6yo wouldn't let me go without her. She crushed it. I was looking for bailout options on the map at the beginning but she blew me away. She's going to be a great rider.

Shout out to @zlatham for hooking us up with a wheelset that would take an 11-42 cassette.

I had noticed that there is an old rail bed that shows up on trailforks just west of where I live. Today was the day to check it out. It was a 32mi mixture of road, gravel, dirt, babyheads and hike a bike.

Good stuff, I love finding and exploring stuff like that. We've got a few old flumes in San Diego I've been looking at. Not rideable now, but could be with some work.

The whole time I was riding I was thinking that with some work the bed could be revived and be a super fun ride accessible to many in the valley. Doubletrack/dirt would be perfect.
