Back it off by 20% chief! The riding on the east coast is really fucking good. Northern New England is riddled with both dirt and paved roads. Not a straight road in sight, endless miles of twisting, up and down pleasure cruising. And the MTB riding is even better! This is for real, no bullshit.

Buttah, I spend 10 weeks a year in Vermont for work. I built a bike and store it Vermont just for that reason, the great riding.
I’m the last one to try to get into an East Coast vs West argument.
We still have plenty seasonal wildlife closures here, plus the fresh snow, plus the stay at home/shelter in place order makes it a tough choice to travel from home to ride. My community was one of the countries COVID hot spots.
Inside riding it is.

I’m down with Zwift, it’s fucking 38 degrees and blowing right now, half a foot of snow forecast for tonight. Wood stove is cranking out the BTU’s. Inside riding it is!
Let’s try to get a ride in this summer.crab in my shoe mouth

Everyone from CA has joined all of the locals on our trails now, so traffic is up at least 3x. I'm shifting more to road riding and to more secret trails that aren't on Trailforks. Yay, bikes!

My daughter is gonna be a ripper if she keeps riding, rode a bunch of tricky trails for 16” and left me pretty impressed. Nice to be able to ride this from our driveway

saturday at auburn
invasive non-native species spotted on culvert trail
jaded local
ride numbers: 12.8 mi with 2.7K vert.
ride time was: fucking long and average speed: a snail's pace.
today’s descents:
stonewall/rocky - encountered zero other trail users.
grizzly bear - encountered zero other trail users.
confluence - as anticipated, encountered multiple groups of users.
take away: the asshole in me looks down my nose at these non typical trail users. their usual locales: the gallerias, mega churches, little league fields, beaches, and starbucks are not an option. and so they clog up “my” trails and eff up my flow. but then my anti-asshole self interrupts the internal rant to remind me that all these peeps are being good citizens by mostly sheltering in place. they are just looking for a break in the monotony, aggravation, loneliness, and anxiety of our shared situation. and so i feel less animosity towards these invasive species. all encounters are punctuated with a greeting and a “thank you” for yielding the trail to me. responses are equally sincere and friendly. so yeah...

Sunday at Mammoth Bar OHV, Auburn, Republick of Kalifornia
I was pretending to be an enduro rider, it was good times while practicing social and emotional distancing.
Stage One: Stonewall/Rocky
Transfer: Up Ranch and across Squaw Flat
Stage Two: Grizzly Bear
Transfer: Up Hoosier Bar, first time on this trail and as expected, it was steep rutted double track. Pushed the bike prolly 95% of this trail. Then across the bottom of Forest Hill Divide Loop, down Connector, and up Castle Rock.
Stage Three: Eastside / River Bar
And lastly, a final grind up Mammoth Bar Road (paved) back to the car.
It was a fun and challenging ride despite the low overall miles.
Thank you FATRAC!
