Kirkwood Seasons Pass Buying Problems
So, I was wondering other's opinions about buying seasons passes from Kirkwood this year: Last year, I got 27 people together to buy seasons passes from Kirkwood, which ended up costing everyone the same amount as if we'd just bought separate "quad passes", since Kirkwood wouldn't give us any sort of discount. This year, I don't really want to deal with the hassle of collecting money from lots of people and organizing the buy, so I got a small group together (7 people) and asked if Kirkwood would be willing to sell all of us the tickets for a quad pass price, since I thought that having more than four people would count for at least as much of a discount per pass as having four people. I have been informed that I am wrong. That I must buy multiples of four passes in order to qualify for this rate, up to 20 passes, and at that point they would be willing to offer more passes.
I've asked for an explanation of this, and this is what I got:
Hello Luke,
I just want to thank you for choosing Kirkwood Mountain resort. The college
quad pass was designed to be sold in groups of 4. This is how our computer
system is set up and we can not change our policy or computer system to sell
individual passes at that rate. So if you can find one more person than you
can get that rate if not there are other options available to you. We do
have a $399 full pass that is being sold through snowbomb.com. The $399
K-bomb pass and the college quad passes are being sold until Oct. 15th.
Hope to see you this winter,

Hi Luke,
Let me explain. It's not that our computer system can not do this it's just
we are not going to offer this rate for random groups of people. If you want
to get a group of 29* together we would be more willing to work with you,
however we are not going to modify our product and policy for three extra
passes. All I can say is try to find another person or look at a different
pass product.
Thanks,
Stephani Voshall

Is it wrong for me to want the same price per pass for a group of 7 as for a group of 4? I realize I could find another person for the group rate, but it just seems like a completely boneheaded policy...

Network Pass.
Use the search function. There's like 14 people on this board that are group organizers.

Network passes are not student passes; the college pass is a bit cheaper if you're taking classes

As a grad student, my income is almost negligible, so I look for discounts wherever I can. Paying $399 for an unlimited seasons pass vs. paying $249 for a value student seasons pass is just too much to pass up. Additionally, it just seems like if Kirkwood will offer 4 passes for $249 a piece, they would be willing to offer 7 passes for $249 a piece. This is really what's bugging me, not the price of the pass, but the buying structure demands.

I have an easy solution, find one more person. Otherwise, quit your bitching. It's $249...not the $399 the rest of us pay...and definitely not the $1400-1800 people pay for a Squaw Pass.
Besides, you're a grad student. You have no right to bitch. Undergrads are way more broke than you are, unless you're a moron and haven't figured out how to earn money by now."I knew in an instant that the three dollars I had spent on wine would not go to waste."

That's retarded.
You should just ski somewhere else instead, and make sure that you tell them you're doing so and they lost the sale of 7 passes (to them, $1743 of pure profit). Make sure you send it to their boss or some other people too.
Heavenly is right by there. Ski Heavenly instead. Looks like college student season pass there is $269, and you don't even have to have more than one person! If I remember right, Heavenly is also bigger than Kirkwood, so your $20 is just going to buy you more runs.

The College Value Pass at Kirkwood is only $269. Value means there are blackout dates, just like Heavenly. They both have the same number of blackout days. Heavenly requires proof of 12 credits. Kirkwood requires proof of 9.
But Heavenly is bigger, badder, and way way radder. You should go there.
Heavenly has like 50 high speed quads, six-paks, and gondola type thingys. Kirkwood has 1 high speed quad with barely enough power to get up the hill. You should defiantly go to Heavenly.
It's not a garage sale. You don't get to haggle.
added- Don't they have student loans any more? I went to Austria, Jackson Hole, Snowbird/Park City, Keystone/A Basin during college (go gators) all with student loans. Sure, it took me 15 years to pay off. Each one of those trips cost twice the combined cost of Heavenly and Kirkwood college passes.Last edited by powdork; 09-27-2007 at 12:32 AM.

I've heard of this place called the backcountry or "BC" as the kids like to say, you can ski for free and cry all you want and nobody can hear you.

i really did mean the part about stupid kw corp, for what its worth. they are fuckers for a lot of reasons (dont get me started on the parking staff/rules, "hospitality" of the food service folks, etc...). but, if it makes you feel better, when i was a grad student we paid a lot more than $269 for our passes to KW! and also, I know about 10 grad students who all sucked it up this year for the $399 pass. good luck.
Prrrrrrr....

Have you suggested paying for 8 passes, with each of the 7 kicking in an extra $32 bucks to cover the cost of the "8 passes" (If you have to put in the name of an non-skiing friend)
Kirkwood gets and extra $250 free and clear, and you save $$ over the non-quad pass.HTML Code:https://youtu.be/hhVylFtE2YE

Sure it is a stupid policy. The world is full of stupid policies. You made it to grad school and haven't figured that out? Buy your own mountain, and you can set what every stupid policy you choose. In the mean time quit whinning.

here's an idea.
instead of bitching, start a thread here looking for 1 more student to be your 8th.
Just yesterday someone posed the question, "What does the average american do 70 times a day?"
