    Golf mags

Any thoughts on a cheap-ish driver or 3-wood? Definitely under $100. I haven't played much recently but am finally getting to the point where I'll have some time and hope to get out a bit.

I am by no means good, but I royally hate the couple of woods I have. I don't even know who makes them, they're at least 15 years old. I used to just think that it was because I sucked (which is partially true, definitely), but last year I was out visiting family and my uncle kept making me hit his "modern" driver. Well, after 3 or 4 trips to the range and some tweaks to my grip, I was shocked to see me firing off arrow-straight drives of maybe 280 or so.

So I'm thinking I'd like to pick up something to replace what I've got. Suggestions? Should I just try a few at a range and whack some balls with 'em?

anything should be an upgrade from 15 year old woods

    check www.callawaygolfpreowned.com for pre-owned stuff

E-bay for drivers, LOTS of great values there

basically look for stuff that's 3-4 seasons old, ever since drivers COR and total headsize has been capped I think the performance differences between model years has been subtle at best, important if you're a serious player, but for the weekend hacker your really not going to be able to tell the difference.

FW woods are tougher since they're really much more personal. And unlike drivers, theres still TONS of performance in older FW's, poke your head into many PGA and LPGA pros bags and you're more then likely going to find more then one pro carrying Callaway Steelheads, Taylormade V-steels and 300's, and Titleist PT's despite having free access to newer "better" FW's.

I think David Toms STILL has his old Cleveland Quad Pro 5 wood in his bag even though he's a Taylormade staffer and Tiger was playing a 5 year old Ignite t-40 5 wood until he recently switched to the SQ2. Like tele skiers with bindings, many, many golfers have tried in vain to find the "holy grail" 3 wood that can bomb it off the tee, work the ball both directions, smoke it from the fairway, and still hit it high enough to land it soft on the green. Best advice is to go try a bunch at a range and pick the one you like best.

For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

Ebay is definitely a good call - also the big golf stores sell a lot of pre-owned clubs that you can snag for under $100 - something that is a few seasons old and in good condition......

Here is a list from golf warehouse - http://www.golfsmith.com/po/browse.p...price%7c0&Xx=L

I have a Callaway great big bertha II that i''d be willing to part with for around $75. Titanium 365cc head and a stiff shaft. It won't be as forgiving as the newer clubs with 460cc heads, but it would be a huge upgrade to what you have now.

2006 Cleveland Launchers are just a bit over $100 and 460cc. Pretty easy to hit, just got back into it too and my Big Bertha was certainly no longer "big".

Go to a good range and demo all their used stuff (1 -2 yrs old) and pick up the one that works for you.

Good call, I couldn't believe they had dropped to that, they are pretty damn nice. I've got a 420cc or 440, i forget, Taylormade 580XD 10.5* driver and Sonertec 4 wood I'd send your way for $117.84...

Just find a shop that sells used clubs. I bought my Taylormade R540 XD at Golfers Warehouse for $25. Can't beat that with a stick.

Excellent 3 wood. You can find these for $10 bucks but this one looks new. I do not recomend the Quadpro driver:

Thanks all. Sounds like last year's models or gently used stuff is the way to go. I'll be catching up w/ said uncle again in a couple of weeks, I suspect we'll go on a little treasure hunt to find something then. If not, I may take some of youz guyz up on your offers.

The TaylorMade SuperSteel driver is in my bag now. Very accurate and easy to hit. The one thing I would say is the Burner Bubble shaft sucks ass..
    Mine has a graffaloy pro-lite.

Of the offers besides free, Tye 1on's two club offer would be the way to go if the shaft flex is what you are looking for. Whatever you do, do not buy some knock off bullshit no matter how good the price is or how many times the person selling it tells you it is the same club, comes off the same production line or from the same foundery. That is crap and what you get will be crap, better to burn a c-note in the driveway than to buy a knock off.

How about a TaylorMade r580xd 3-wood with a Fujikura Stiff shaft? I've got one that's just about brand new, I'll sell it for $100 shipped.
