Dynastar Legend Pro Rider changes since 2006 version

Does anyone know if the Dynastar Legend Pro Rider has changed in construction, structual design, flex, performance, etc. over the last three seasons of versions? If so how?

Please note I'm not talking or asking about cosmetic differences.

    2005-2006 = orange w/ navy blue
    2006-2007 = orange/black
    2007-2008 = orange/black gothic "Dynastar"
Straight-lining is the way of the West.

in 0607 they went to the rounded top edge. 0607 to 0708 is only a graphic change.

05-06 - 'Racing Atlier' (race room) construction, no tip/tail protectors on early skis. Later skis have the protectors and are made in the 'production ski' factory.

In the new Powder they say the core is made of a wood-Rohacell foam core. I think the 06/07 were all wood and a local shop tech told me they were hand made as well. That I have no idea about...

06/07 was a mixed core. At least that's what the website said back then.

Can anyone actually tell the difference between the hand-made "race room" skis and the "production" versions. I'm guessing the latter must be made by robots and midgets?

    ugh
    they were all wood-rohacell
and dont no one start giving the ski shit because it has "foam" in it
this is not typical foam. beleive it or not, rohacell is used in MANY aerospace applications.

06 and earlier were raceroom made. all of these have the general orange color scheme of fame.
06 & on are not raceroom made

stiffness supposedly is softer on the new models, but so far thats heresay as i havent had a chance to really compare the two or know of anyone else with first hand experience.

tip protectors cam on in the 04/05? model and were also on the 05/06.

the mounting locations have floated up and down a bit, but the general concensus is that the best FACTORY line is 795cm drawn from the tail on a 186cm.

You can tell which model year the tip protector ones are by seeing what color the dynastar is on the logo, either black or silver apparently.

alot of this is obviously just cosmetic stuff so i didnt care enough to remember what year\model it corresponded to.

    Slightly off topic, but relevant:

There are a pair of skis over here that are suppose to be an LP develoment ski for the 08/09???, or whatever year they're working on. It has a much bigger/wider shovel and wood side-walls - as I've been told. I'm going for a look-see later today.

So are all LPs with the original orange color scheme "race room"?

I ask because I have had two pair of of 04/05s with no protectors and loved they way they skied, however due to abuse for one pair and being in a financial jam for the others, they are no longer in my possessions.

I recently picked up some new in the plastic 05/06 with the tip/tail protectors with the black Dynastar logo, are they essentially the same as the race room 04s?

The 05-06 versions still had the orange surf-board like topsheet which were race room produced. The 06-07 versions were the ones with the orange and black topsheet that to my knowledge weren't race room produced.

    LP's

the 05-06 were race room skis. Laid up by hand.

All subsequent LP are race production line skis.

Still made in the race division in Sallances, France, but on the race ski production line vs the individual fabrication method.

Race room skis usually are discarded often, as a result the Race Room versions have the square edges on the top sheet. No worry about chips they won't be around that long.
Subsequent versions have rounded top edges, to ensure a real durable product.

I can say that the non race room skis 06/07 and 07/08 are thinner than the race room skis. Sidewalls and the whole ski are just slightly thinner, but especially out toward the tips. By my super scientific hand flexing method, I gotta say they feel pretty dang similar in flex which surprised me given the slightly thinner construction and my skiing experiences detailed below. I would take that with a shaker of salt though. Tip and tail protectors were at the very least on the 05/06 which were the last of the race room skis.

What amatog said about the tops of the sidewalls is also true. The race room one's are squared, while the non-race room ones are tapered. Looks to me like there might be some other subtle differences in the topsheet and construction beyond just rounded top edges, but again, I'm no expert.

I have both at the moment, hence my above comments. GBB, I'm looking to ship yours hopefully early next week...

I can say I skied the 06/07 last year in Austria and LOVED them and bought some 05/06's and skied them a handful of days in Mammoth and thought them too much for me. The 05/06's were mounted a touch forward, but just in general seemed stiffer / more demanding, but the conditions, hill, were very different so not an even comparison. I will however be able to comment on the 06/07's hopefully in a couple of months...

P-man: I know you're interest in skis and engineering collide, so I'll ramble in the detail that only a layman can create. Hope you enjoy.

I've had a look at this ski and am told it is a development LP for an up-coming year.

It's 186 long. It is 123-100-117. (Edit: these dimensions are wrong. The correction measuremnets are 128-100-117 & 184 long, as detailed in my post on page 2 of this thread). So slightly wider in the waist than the current 07/08 version (124-97-116).

The flex is slightly softer than the current version. Particularly in the tip.

The tip is more curved (not to be read as rockered cause it ain't) and higher than 06/07 model.

And it has wooden side walls. I'm told this is what they're testing. It hasn't been skied much so no idea of it's durability.

Where's the photo I promised? - Well, I had the choice of one more run before work or get my camera and take the photo... there is no photo. It has big trouble t/s on it if that helps.

This is mounted with tele's - groan!!!! So It won't be me that gives a report on how it skis.

yep, but the 187 XXL doesnt have a release date till mid december over here. At least that is what Dynastar said the other day, so hopefully it doesnt get delayed. I am waiting for a pair.

only $795ish shipped to US: Actually not too bad considering the US might not see the 187s this year.

    coool!
    thanks for the info

What do I know, but I think thats a mistake to make the waist wider, tip smaller, and tail bigger. A big mistake.

Id think it would do wonder to that ski to shave a bit off the tail and make the tip a VERY VERY slight softer. Say 124-97-112.

I figure the wooden sidewall are just there now for ease of fab\proto development.

I agree on the proposed changes to the LP. Not the direction I would have taken the ski. Can't see how the proposed wider waist / skinnier tip would help anything.

On the other hand, pretty psyched about the 186 XXL!!! Was sorta hoping that would make it and suprised it wasn't announced already.

I think it may help decrease the sidecut a bit. If it is a softer tip in conjunction with less sidecut it could be super stable and easier to initiate at the same time.

I'm just speculating, of course, because Dynastar has very little info out anywhere.
