Nau clothing
They are a new company out of Portland www.nau.com They make some very well made and detailed clothing (from the 2 pieces I own and the others I've seen among the best) that's currently aimed at being "multi-function". You can wear it on the street and take it to the mountain (awesome for travellling ).
Check 'em out, even if the ecoblather is over the topElvis has left the building

A bit to euro chic for my tastes, but I'm sure it will go over well with the Outside mag crowd.

Are these the guys that stole tons of execs from Patagucci?
I heard they're online sales focused with ultra small retail locations.

Hey CJ,
Thanks for the props, really appreciate it. Had my head down working for the past year-ecoblather turns out to be a ton of work -hence the lack of TRs. Some of our most technical product just came out today, and we've got more coming in the next month, so if the more stylie stuff isn't up your alley, well, check out the Blazing or Asylum Jackets...
Anyway, if anyone's curious about what we're up to, feel free to drop me a PM.Last edited by alpinepronghorn; 09-13-2007 at 06:34 PM.

I suck at the internet, but still I am having trouble finding the Asylum Jacket. Is it not up on the website yet, or am I just even less capable than I thought?

Asylum
The Asylum's coming out on October 11th; so you won't see it on the website yet. Should have mentioned that. Here's a pic, though:

I'm way too redneck to ever spend $110 on a shirt, even if it is bicurious.
Not that the stuff doesn't look sharp.

Saw this a few weeks ago. My girlfriend really wanted a job there, and now I'm glad she didn't pursue it. I guess there's only 1 slot reserved for adventure clothing in the hearts of rich hippies.

It's still a great concept and someone will fill the niche.
I think they went overboard with the retail locations too quickly. I jumped on the fire sale and got a few pieces coming this week. If they are as good as the hype, I will be doubly sad that they're going out of business.I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...

Good to know they're back up and running. There was a recent Alpinist Mountain Standards review of one of their baselayers, and it was favorable. http://www.alpinist.com/doc/web08s/ms-cbr-nau-base2

I'm pretty glad to see that they've figured out a way to stay in business. It seems they were too aggressive anyway, so starting small will be a good thing.
I've got a couple shirts on the way, and am pretty stoked to see how they feel/fit. I like their philosophy, that they use sustainably grown/raised materials, and that you can choose an organization to donate to. However, it's easy for me to be excited about them when everything is on clearance. Otherwise, I have trouble justifying 50 bones for a T-shirt, especially when that's probably 20% of my annual clothing expenditure.Last edited by bagtagley; 06-25-2008 at 12:48 PM.

out of curiosity, does anybody know where the Nau gear is actually made?
i am always intrigued by small clothing (or gear) companies that spend much of their webspace detailing their eco-friendly practises but then never once mention where they actually make the clothing.
just curious, that's all.

snippet from the trade rags:
Nau Acquired by Horny Toad Activewear
June 25, 2008
Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Horny Toad Activewear Inc. has acquired the Portland, Ore.-based Nau brand, which announced it was shutting down business in early May due to an inability to secure additional financing. Horny Toad, a lifestyle apparel company, has stepped forward and purchased the bulk of Nau's remaining assets. The new Nau will launch on Aug. 1, as a new and separate company. This will include a transition of fulfillment and logistic services to Horny Toad's social venture partners, Planet Access. "We saw in Nau an innovative brand representing the perfect blend of outdoor, urban fashion sensibility with an unwavering commitment to sustainability," said Gordon Seabury, CEO of Horny Toad. "It is all about their innovative product, authentic brand and most importantly the talented group behind those attributes. Our long-term vision is to create a family of complementary brands that can learn from one another while embodying a do-the-right-thing philosophy." Nau will re-emerge with a smaller core team focused on product and brand development. Its products will continue to be sold through its Web site, Nau.com, but rather than continuing to sell through its own retail outlets, Nau will begin partnering with other select, like-minded retailers. In Portland, the plan will be to introduce Nau at the Lizard Lounge in fall 2008. Horny Toad also is committed to maintaining and evolving Nau's Partners for Change program to continue giving a percentage of every sale to organizations working for positive change, and involving customers directly in the giving process. As part of the relaunch, the company also plans to re-ignite Nau's blog, The Thought Kitchen (http://blog.nau.com). The old Nau will continue to sell the remainder of its spring/summer line at reduced prices into the month of July at Nau.com. "We're still committed to being a catalyst for positive change and bringing distinctive product to our customers," said Mark Galbraith, who now works for the new company as Nau's head of product design. "We plan to reopen with a new fall/holiday 2008 collection that continues to reflect the design philosophy Nau's customers have come to know and love--a balance of beauty, performance and sustainability."Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.
