TR: Gay Head, MA - 8.25.08
For KMO's dad's birthday today, we took him on a half-day charter off the coast of Gay Head on Martha's Vineyard. Left the house at 3:30 this morning for the drive down to Westport where we met up with Captain Ned, Cousin Vinnie and a couple others.
Here was our killing machine, the Watch Out (with triple 225s!! - holy crap did this thing haul ass)
And of course, you've got to have a big rig to tow this thing
Word on the street was, stripers were going off at this spot just a few days ago and Captain Ned wanted to make sure we got there before anyone else. And we did. And the stripers were going off, again.
Birthday boy with the catch of the day (go to the East Coast Grill tonight and you can order this one):
We caught our quota and had to throw back at least 15 of them. I've never seen anything like it.
Dinner tonight:
People shooting ski areas should be sued.

We think that fish was between 30-40 lbs. It measured about 4.5' long. Most of the others we reeled in were about 25lbs or so. That hard part was throwing back the 20 pounders in hopes that we would hook bigger ones.

definately not largemouth-ish. Maybe smallmouth. A typical striper will make two to four strong steady runs (in light tackle, each one feels like you're gonna get spooled), then stop fighting opposite the drag and start swimming sideways to the pressure. Originally Posted by Pow4Brains

Stripers and a pogie; what a combo. BTW, nice striper. I love MV, esp. Menemsha, the real fishing village on the island.
Also, nice ass in the turquoise capris!
