I see your wife subscribed to the same notion that every surface, the more beautiful the better, should be completely covered in pillows.
Envious of that shop.
Want to do something similar in my mud room. Super awesome looking. Love the contrasts and colors too.

Yeah, nice work and A+ throw pillow game. How are the shelves attached to the walls?

That's a lot of pillows.

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

If you can find space,3-4 people can sit in the pillow storage area. And in fairness to Mrs. DJSapp, all of the places in the house to sit are covered in pillows and/or throw blankets. She just hasn't bought blankets for this one yet. She actually might not since this is at the dinner table.
Wait, how can we trust this guy^^^ He's clearly not DJSapp

Dope, DJ.
You’re inspiring me for my entryway build. I was planning a similar bench/storage but was going to use removable bench seats/cushions that I bought some mix-matched goat skins to use as covers.
But that bench top matches my office table in the next room. Hmmm.
Dope work. The color and design of the whole wall is rad.

One piece of advice regarding entryway lift top bench/storage--you will never be able to use the storage without first moving your wife's crap piled on top of it.

Good tips. Hadn't thought about the crap sitting on the bench. Doh...
Oh well, saves me having to wrap 3-4 bench seats in goat skin. And now I get to think of a new use for the goat skin.

NDJS- I have a buddy with a full on woodshed in his 2 car garage. All cars park outside always. Full on Festool dream shop.
He says the same thing about paint. Must be a thing. Maybe you guys like wood so much, it pains you to cover it up?

Rub on finishes--either store bought or homemade poly/oil/thinner--are pretty foolproof although take a lot of coats. Start with Danish oil allowed to dry without wiping, then sanded in with a second coat w 320 paper, then the rub-in finish.
Finishes have gotten tougher as environmental regulations have changed formulas--I have never been able to duplicate the best finish I've ever done on my wife's dressing table probably 25 years ago..

Been a while since I've taken time to work on a project not related to work.
1436 Tracker Topper Jon Boat. Bought it used a few weeks ago, unadulterated boat - barely used. Came with a 15hp Johnson outboard and a 60 lb thrust transom mount trolling motor. spruced up the trailer with some paint on the steel, new rims/tires, new bunks, and reworked some of the wiring. Painted the boat, added wood floors and decks (aluminum framing), storage, bench cushion, and a poling platform. All in total, I'm about $2,800 into the project - boat, motors, and materials - and probably 40 hrs of labor. I have some other things I'd like to do next spring - Sea Deck on the wood casting deck and floor, two new batteries wired in the front for balance, etc. I can run this thing with the gas outboard, electric trolling motor, or oars. Functional any lake in Colorado where boats are allowed. Already looking forward to next summer.

Thanks! Steam bent the legs square, shaped/tapered them, glued them up. Top 4 pieces to support the music are steam bent too. Since there was finish talk top dark “mystery wood” is a wiping varnish for semigloss, the ash lower is a soft wax.

Anybody here do any bladesmithing? I've been considering taking it on as a new winter hobby. I love working with my hands, love welding and really enjoy the craftsmanship of a custom knife.
