Some very cool stuff in this thread.

When you are young and replacing stuff, the 20 year guarantee on pressure treated sounds like a long time. But it flies by.

We had the railroad tie retaining wail that rotted away and I replaced it with dry-laid tumbled bluestone. It came out ok, if not exactly straight.

Was pretty easy to do too.

Nice use for the old brass or if you ever pickup a 75mm R gun you have something to reload.

I can get the gun, but finding the dies for that is a bitch. Also, I'm pretty sure they won't fit my Lee press.

Built this pantry cabinet. I still need to add the two sliding drawers I purchased hardware for, but we had peaches to can and no room, so it was time to bring it inside.

Putting a finish on that can be more work than building it

Wasn't too bad. We used the same butcher block wax as we have on the island in the kitchen so that they would match. Goes on fairly fast & easy.

Realized that the lady and I have too much stuff to put in our storage locker, so I built some shelves. Now I need to figure out what to do with the skis.

Couple of 2x4's about 6-8" below the ceiling and put the skis up there & out of the way?

I'm not a handy person, but I managed to put this thing together for my kids this summer. Hoping it survives the snow load this year. (Also hoping there is a snow load this year.)

Incidentally, don't offhandedly suggest to your children that you might build a tree house. They'll remember that shit and hound you about it for an entire year.

Looks good. How did you do the leg joints? Did it end up tight? I'm working on a dining room table with 4x4s for legs and I'm deciding whether I want to mortise and tenon it (well open mortise) or use lag bolts and a corner brace.

Just wrapped up a couple other cabinet and door jobs, so took a day to make this bench for our entry.

The wood is Jatoba scrap pile I've had in my garage for a couple years. Steel bars as a shoe rack beneath.

We bought a table for far to much money at Pottery Barn. Got it home and realized it was made with Pine. Pine, and spent well over a grand for it. We were going to buy the benches that went with it, but at 500 bucks a piece for pine... I just couldn't do it. So I went down to the lumber yard, bought large ash slab at 12 foot x 16 inches, picked up another long piece of rough Ash 15 feet by 4x4 and went to work.

Finished to match table with a liquid dye, then BLO, then 5 coats shellac, then wax. The slab had a minor split at the end I stabilized with walnut butterfly's I created.
