Regie Miller may make a comeback

Miller said he is calling friends and peers, seeking their advice and listening to their feedback before he makes his decision. He still plays recreationally, but must determine if he wants to go through the physical and mental grind of an 82-game season. He also wonders how his body would respond to the intensive training it would take to get him back to NBA shape.
What sort of recreational league is competitive enough for one of the best shooters in NBA history?

I don't know where Reggie lives, but there are "pickup" games every night in cities like Chicago where NBA just-misses, former NBA players and former Div1 players lace it up. Lots of these guys still hope to play professionally. Probably good competition for Reggie considering most of these guys are almost 20 years younger than he.

I'm pretty sure he lives in LA, which has a couple famous rec games (with UCLA guys, USC guys, Lakers, Clippers, and every other NBA guy from the area).

As a Celtics fan, I am all for this, if only because it will be the funniest thing in the world watching KG, Pierce, Allen, and Reggie playing together. Who's going to run the point, Mark Price?

    fucking cuntbag

If the refs had actually CALLED the shove he gave to GA then he wouldn't have scored those 8 points

    I HATE REGGIE MILLER!!

nothing but a prissy little jump-shooter

I hope he blows out BOTH his ACL's, falls down a flight of stairs breaking both his wrists on the way down, and for good measure he could land it a pit of punji stakes at the bottom of the staircase

UCLA's Men's Gym has the most amazing pick-up games. (See here.) Seriously, I'd rather watch most games there than I would an NBA game at the Staples Center. You should check it out next summer, SSD.

I am a Knicks fan, so I hate him some, but sheesh, gotta give the guy some respect, he was more than just a prissy little jump shooter. That guy worked fucking HARD on the court, never stopped moving.

Is this the $1000 question in the Double Jeopardy category "NBA Eastern Conference 2000-Current"?

Yeah he worked hard running around through screens and taking jump shots all game

He never averaged over 25 points per game in any season in his ENTIRE career and for a 6-7 guard he really wasn't much of a rebounder. I don't rate him that high as a defender either. He did play a bunch of minutes and was a GREAT shooter but Alan Houston has a higher career 3 point shooting percentage and similar stats at the same position but nobody considers him one of the best shooters ever......Granted I think Alan Houston was possibly the WORST signing the Knicks made during that period, we paid him tons of money and he really didn't do much of anything except for that one layup against Miami.

Reggie Miller is a perfect example of how a war with Spike Lee and being one of the greatest trash talkers ever can make you into a media legend.

Fucking 8 points in 9 seconds........Wonder if Doneghy was on that crew

In one of the strangest turn of events, I am also a Celtics fan (they're my 2 favorite teams), so I'm really not sure how I feel about this.

actually we have NO chance at all

Seriously who's bright idea was it to bring in Starbury and Francis thats got to rank as one of the absolute dumbest idea in NBA history....lets bring in two me first guards when we already have like 5 other guys who play the same position

and both have huge cap numbers and are almost impossible to trade

    yeah that worked well.......

And Zack Randolph will be a PERFECT fit in NYC there's NO way he's gonna get in trouble there

Randolph is a me-first blackhole of a power forward. He's great but he shoots a lot and CANNOT pass out of a double team to save his life. He'll do great with Marbury.

Another mourning/recovering Knicks fan, sad to say. And yes, whenever I think of Reggie Miller, I think of 8 points.

Rev, the zeke he's referring to is the current master of disaster Isiah Thomas. Is there anything at this point he won't fuck up? Seriously, I'm half expecting a link between him and this doneghy scandal.

but as far as Randolph is concerned, I think this might be good for him. For what ever reason NY athletes seem to get in less trouble than most others. this has not always been the case. the Mets in the 80s and the Giants in the 80s were the rule not the exception.

Yeah, I know he's talking about Isiah. Definitely has some dirt on somebody, else he would have been out of a job a long time ago. If anyone thinks the Knicks are going to be significantly better this year, well...vibes.

My theory? NY athletes get in less trouble because the water is a bit more diluted, you know? Zach couldn't fart in the wind in Portland without a front page story. You pretty much have to kill someone creatively in NY to make the 3rd page of the Living section on a very slow day.

Zach will fuck up, but not in NYC. He'll get arrested somewhere else and the Knicks will pay for it.

The Celtics would do better hiring Reggie as a coach than as a player at this point. Realistically, at 42 his body will not hold up to playing his game. There is a reason big men can last longer in the league. They get to walk up and down the court and stay near the paint. Reggie's game was running circles around screens at the 3 point line, taking shots, getting fouled, and trying to get back on defense against smaller, quicker players. Ya can't do that forever.

Zeke is a dirtbag. As long as he stays in NY, Knicks fans will get what he deserves.

I boiled my thermometer, and sure enough, this spot, which purported to be two thousand feet higher than the locality of the hotel, turned out to be nine thousand feet LOWER. Thus the fact was clearly demonstrated that, ABOVE A CERTAIN POINT, THE HIGHER A POINT SEEMS TO BE, THE LOWER IT ACTUALLY IS. Our ascent itself was a great achievement, but this contribution to science was an inconceivably greater matter.

Yeah, but the question is whether he can do it sparingly during the season, primarily in a reserve role, and then into the playoffs, primarily during clutch time. He's not going to be playing 40+ minutes over 75+ games. And as much as I hated the guy, I always thought that his advantage was mental more than physical.

I'm guessing that he has been looking very good in high level pick-up games, else they would not be interested. But I am sure they are interested in a different Reggie. I expect that they want him to play a Bruce Bowen role on offense, basically spot up and shoot 3's. I can't imagine they want to set all those screens, set up all those plays, for a 42 yo guy who is going to play 15 minutes per game.
