Regardless, I'm in for the sale. See you all at midnight.
    Hmm...

I found a couple of documents that claimed the tensile strength of steel was around 23000 psi, while bamboos was closer to 28,000psi.

    http://kauai.net/bambooweb/whybamboo.html

Looking further though, it appears steel actually has a TS of 400 Mpa or about 58,000 psi, as well as some data that found the TS of bamboo to be as low as 11,000psi.

Not sure where some of the reports get their data from as numbers appear to be scattered.

My engineering background is more on the electrical side, so after I found a couple reports that made the claim I went with it. Either way, it appears to have at least double the TS of normal wood, which I found to be about 6,000 psi.

I agree with blurred. Its a big risk, but if the skis rip, they will have 500 loyal customers next season plus whoever else they tell about it. I guess one issue is that the people waiting at midnight to snatch up a $250 ski are not the same ones who will buy $850 skis. So even if they really like them its possible most people will not buy a full price pair of blue house right away after the initial deal.

Seeing as how TGR is so great at getting the word out on new products maybe we could set up a TGR group pre-buy?

I found the exact same report as you when I did my search. I knew steel was at 58,000 psi (I'm a structural engineer), so I was amazed to the possibility that bamboo was stronger. One of the reasons the strengths seem to be so scattered for bamboo is the strength of bamboo varies as you go from the outside of the stalk to the inside. I read a report stating the outside of the stalk is 4x stronger than the inner fibers, which makes sense for the plant's design.

    Group pre-buy

I don't think I could resist pulling the trigger on a group pre-buy. That would definately work out a lot better for me. The longer I think about it I might find a way to fight the temptation.

We just uploaded a video on our site to show everyone what the skis look like. We made it an hour ago and really just wanted to get something up as quickly as possible so we apologize for the quality.

^^^^Cool. I want a pair of both. Here's the thing--I'm old and I go to bed early. Let the mags sign up early.

Don't bother resisting. I think it's great idea to support a small ski company. Especially one who is willing to put their product out at a reduced (rad) price. I think they would have a large number of maggots who would sign up for a pre-sale. I know I would. Then I could get some sleep on August 31st.

^Yeah, not really working for me either. Even without the vid I'm in for a pair. A pre-sale would be dope.

For $250, I'll jump in on a pre buy.

Seems like there could be a lot of people wanting to do this, what does it take to get something like that set up?

i see a bunch of people talking about putting alpine binders on these skis . . . even thought bluehouse says above that they weight >1lb less than goats.

anybody else thinking the district sounds like an awesome soft-snow at ski?

i think my comforts from the group buy may have found their home

^^^My plan is to throw some Freerides or something on there. Not alpine, and not dukes.
