    The "A" Factor

This shit is just too funny, it must be recorded. Those of you who have experienced the "A" factor will know exactly what i mean. Here's one to start...

After years of being irritated by the fact that the pyramide atm only dispenses 100 peso notes and nobody wants to accept a 100 peso note i got a surprise the other day. 400 pesos in tens. the wad was so thick it jammed in the slot and i had to gently tease the stuck bills out. this clearly trumped a friends experience with 600p in 20p notes.

Have you ever noticed that the wood they burn is one of the hardest substances know to man yet every wooden tool handle (including axe handles) is made of some third rate shite that snaps as soon as it is exposed to oyxgen?

Yesterday I came home to find my toilet entirely disassembled and sitting in a pool of water that filled the bathroom. Apparently, after failing to fix it four times in the past week, the "plumber" decided to just turn the water back on and go home and mate or something.

My thoughts on this post can best be summed up by a line in an SNL sketch of Frank Sinatra as played by the late Phil Hartman: "can't understand a word he said"

Was it the kind of bathroom with a showerhead right above the toilet? Nothing like dropping a deuce and shampooing up at the same time.

I hate the 100 peso dispenser.

Sometimes just to get change, you need to go take a shift at Casino Lenas !!!

The kind where you have to shuffle into the space between the toilet and the wall so that the door will close behind you?

Where the first thing you have to do upon arriving at your apartment is to connect the flue to the rear of the gas water heater above the kitchen sink to avoid asphyxiation.

In a country where it takes four taxi drivers 20 minutes to work out that they cannot fit five passengers with skis/boards and luggage inside of a Renault 14. But that they expect a tip for trying.

    I can't wait.

Covert, you just had a week of Marte, the best skiing on the planet at this time of year, and all you can post about is ATM dispensing? How bout some details on what went down?
As far as A factor goes, being a full time resident for the last 2+ years, I got a few stories. Let me think of some of my favorite stories and post shortly.

    I still don't 'get' the "A Factor"...

And I'm told the "girl card" ought not to be played...

    Help?

    (sorry...)

How bout every year daylight savings is a game time decision? How bout when it is windy, Las Leñas loads every other chair. Some people don't use their headlights to save their battery. More to follow.

that's what i'm talkin' bout. has anyone else noticed the penchant for encasing all the plumbing in concrete around here? makes it stronger right?

You know, there is a separate cougar thread going on. IMO, there is no finer cougar than the Buenos Aires porteña. all you young vicitims should go spend some time in the Recoleta on the weekend and be sure to look at there faces (not just from behind) before getting excited.

just got from esquel tonite. damn, i dealt with so much A-factor, it was quite ridiculous. from the "extra" $10P charge to load our board bags into the Via Bariloche bus (yeah, i'll be right back with your receipt...), to the sketchy roof racks of taxis. "lo atamos con alambre" has never been more true. hmmm....i bet you'd rather see pics of that kick-asss mountain rather than hear about stupid stories about it. vamos a ver

this year in lenas the dormys will not do your laundry and the lavanderia will not accept socks or underwear.

after much frustration i decided to take matters into my own hands and do the laundry in the tub. now my shirts smell like feet and my socks smell like b.o. i've been here so long i'm starting to a factor myself.

OK, so we have an alarm company, ADT. The deal is if you alarm goes off, they call the house and you give them a password. If no one answers or the password is wrong, they call the police. We had a widespread power outage in Bariloche this winter and when the power was restored, our house alarm kept going off, very loud and annoying. I called the company. They tried to disengage it from their headquarters but couldn't. They then told me to put a pillow over it (it is the keyboard mounted in the wall) and a technician would be out next week. I told them that not only was that not acceptable since it didn't silence the alarm, but it was not possible to mount a pillow on the wall. I then asked them if I could cut the power to the cables and they said I could but I would have to pay for the new installation. I told them it wasn't my fault and the customer sohuldn't have to pay for this faulty system. Then, out of nowhere, the lady says "turn the power off, disconect cables 2 and 3, turn the power on" and your alarm should be silenced. Sure enuff, after 1.5 hours, the 10 second remedy solved the problem.
Then for the next month, we call every day to have the technician come out and change the battery (apparently the source of the problem). Every day, different excuse. Their is snow on the road on a sunny day, the road is closed, the technician will call you, the technician had problems with the last install, the supervisor will be in touch with you, there is a power outage in your area (even though we have power). After a month of this, we found another company and then called to cancel the service. ADT tells me a technician will be out next week. I say gracias pero no gracias and they tell me an executive will call next week. And themnyesterday, a technician calls and says he will be here in an hour and I told him it is not necessary. Can't wait to see the bill for the last month, and the subsuquent phone calls.
A(factor)DT is definetly an Argentine company that sums it up in a nutshell. Thanks for allowing me to vent.
During our 2 seasons in Las Leñas, we had support groups for long Marte closures. Perhaps an A Factor support group would help, I know this post has helped me personally.

Covert, you aren't even smelly, can't imagine what your sidekicks funk level must be by now.
