    Shoe advice, please

I'm in the market for a nice comfy MTB shoe that I can use in the city with spd's. Not too expensive, not too serious, but serious enough to crank hard when I need too. Just want to be able to walk off the bike on days I commute. I'm clomping around on my Look cleated road shoes right now.
Or, maybe a new pedal system that recedes into the shoe, making walking comfortable?

    Any ideas or experience here?

As far as shoe reccos, you know the drill. Try and buy.

As far as pedals go, switch to Crank Bros. I have the Quattros on my roadie and Candys on my MTB. I can use my Nike MTB shoes on the road bike, although it did require a little modification (and may not be neccesary on other shoes- in my case some of the sole lugs were making clipping in difficult.) I use this setup when road biking in NYC. Also, the Quattro cleat uses the 3-bolt pater, not the SPD pattern, if you want to keep your current road shoes even if they don't have SPD holes.

You NEED to come in and see me at the shop. As you might imagine we do a significant amount of the type of thing you're looking for.

I use my mountain bike shoes on my road bike when I ride it to work.
I have (had) Mallets on the mtb and quattro's on the road. No mod's needed for my mountain shoes to clip into road.
