All around EC Saltwater Fly Rod Setup?

So I am in the market to purchase my first saltwater fly rod set up and need a bit a guidance. Realistically 90% of my casting if going to be done from the beach or jetty targeting blues and stripers. I am looking toward the cheaper side of things and have looked at a few of the TFO rods. I am just unsure of what weight would suit me best all around? 8 9 10?? I have been told I have sound casting technique and prefer rods with a faster action. Any recommendations for a reel and line(full sink, intermediate?) while we are at it?

The only thing worse than the feeling that you are going to die is the realization that you probably won't.

if you're going off jetties or the beach and you're just getting into salt water, no need to go above 8 weigh to start...

This photo is of a 5-6lb blue (average inshore blue you'd get from a jetty this time of year...)

Don't expect to be needing more than an 8wt from shore if you're just getting starting in the salt water fly world...

I started with this 8wt, it's a fast action and the only thing i'd change about my intro to salt water fly fishing would have been a softer action rod....and one that catches slightly bigger fish.

i would definitely go with a 9wt if for no other reason than youll be able to throw bigger flies. (or deal with wind better etc)

An 8wt is definitely enough to catch pretty much anything youll get hooked into.

    Lobster:

Do you have a Colton CR9?
Since then it's been a book you read in reverse, so you understand less as the pages turn.

The things you find on the net.

You said "cheaper", and I have actually casted this rod, and fished with it. Real nice in the wind, definately better than the price. And a portion of the proceeds goes the the Redbone Society run by a buddy of mine, to help fight CF. http://www.redbone.org/rods.html

The flyrods have a nice backbone so fighting stripers would be a lot of fun, and like I said I was casting tarpon flys into a rather strong wind with pretty good success.

    Good Luck,
    Jay
Five minutes into the drive and you're already driving me crazy...
