^Wow that looks awesome, better be a great case of beer winning CTP on that one! That guy at 1:20 was like what, a 5 foot putt from the pin? Looks great with no wind too, I bet it can get miserable some years in that canyon?

If you ever get in Northern WI or Eastern MN check out a place called High Bridge. Multiple courses on a huge wooded property, world champs were held there a few back I believe. Rent the cabin, its a sick place looking out towards superior.

I just moved to an apartment complex that borders Pier Park in Portland, OR - home to an awesome 18-hole disc golf course. Like any course every hole has a mass amount of empty beer cans piled up at the tee and a fair share of pros, amateurs and the usual boyfriend dragging his girlfriend along. I used to play a ton but had life get in the way for a while. Then I went for the first time the other day and had a total blast. Lots of dogs are off leash which would be awesome except mine has decided she doesn't like the look of this park and will run away back the apartment at every chance. Sheesh. If anyone out there in Portland land wants to play, please hit me up.

I know there's a few ultimate players out there, so figured I'd chime in again for this summer.

This year I'm playing on District 5, the currently #3 ranked team in the nation.

We're headed to Philly Invite (though I won't be there), Emerald City Classic, and Chesapeake Open.

Anyone going to be at any of those tournaments? Chime in here or PM me. Wicked stoked to have made this team and working my tail off on a daily basis to continue to be a contributor on the D-line.
It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

so i tweaked my throwing (right) arm somehow, blacked out drunk. decided to try and play left handed. shot plus 9 over 10 holes. some of my drives/ mid range shots were actually half way decent. but i could not putt left handed to save my life

That is awesome! I think I did a climb or two on that rock before. That would be a great combo sport, disc golf and rock climbing, hmm.

Lindley was the best mini-course ever, miss that place.

Finally got out for some disc action today, first time in a year. Also the first time in weeks that the weather has been beautiful - believe it or not it's been a cold and gloomy summer here.

I played 18 holes left handed, to rehab my left arm, and then another round right handed. (this is not me)

The course may be flat and pretty open compared to what you guys play but it is still very challenging. There is a constant wind blowing across the course from San Francisco that varies up and down. The direct routes on several of the holes require you pitch out over the water and hope that your hyzer or turn is holding stable, otherwise you lose your disc in the water or you overcompensate/throw up too high and it's been pulled clear across the other side of the course into the trees and bushes where gay druggies have random hookups in the middle of the night (no joke, I had to avoid a few used condoms looking for a disc today).

The regulars know how to throw some super stable bombs in the wind and just trust it.

And when you can't trust it, well this guy will find your disc for you. He'll even clean off the algae/gunk with a little bleach and sell you back your disc for a a few bucks if he knows you, and if he doesn't know you well then some random newbie is buying your discs for $5-7 (I'm assuming y'all play some champion or pro plastic, and if you're playing star plastic well better not lose that disc! The dx stuff is super cheap). It helps to bring nugs.

Gorgeous day to be out, and good to be back doing active stuff again!

Played today in the beautiful Seattle sunshine. We are lucky to have an amazing course out here at Lakewood park.

Just transplanted up to arcata, and was wondering if there are any mags up here playing ?

I have played the HSU course, College of redwoods course, and cooper gulch in eureka. and they are all fun. this will give me a chance to improve my short tech skills.

Long time ultimate player, but never played disc golf, and don't know a thing about it. Can someone post some links for a quiver to start out with? Don't want to buy some crappy discs and then have to upgrade.

How many discs do folks typically carry? I'm assuming you have a driver and a putter? Lots of courses around where I live, and it seems like a fun way to kill a 6 pack.

    Thanks.

grab a putter, midrange, and driver. driver for newb should prolly be a leapard or understable. try it out and have fun. more advanced players carry lots of discs (to many) find a couple and learn to throw them. you will have more fun this way.

and yes its a great way to drink beer

If you're only going to throw two discs, you're better off throwing a putter/mid range and a fairway driver.

EDIT: Most more experienced players carry about 3-4 times more discs than they need or use. I'm not a great player so I'm not the best example, but I could play 18 with just a Roc and a slightly understable driver. Get a Roc - it's a great, versatile short-mid range disc that will fly predictably.

I just play with my ultimate disc because I don't want to screw up my throws by learning another disc (and I am only handicapped on the distance of the drives, I'm more accurate than most frolfers otherwise) but really, 2 or 3 discs should be all you need.

Innova DX Roc, 174-178 grams. $7 and the possibly most reliable, precise, and well-used mid-range disc of all time. Putts fine. I even drive short shots with it sometimes.

Innova DX Leopard or Tee-Bird, if you don't want to upgrade, Innova Cheetah if you want a driver that will work for you now but you will eventually outgrow. 167-172g. The Leopard and Tee-Bird fly straight for experienced players but hook a bit overstable (left for a right hander) for new players. Cheetah is easy to handle but the thing will get beat up fast and once you get better it's a really understable driver.

Of my quiver that I actually use:
~3-4 drivers ranging from big overstable to straight and stable depending if I go forehand or backhand. You always want backup drivers for when you plunk into a water hazard/tree and your disc is gone. Upgrade to Champion level plastic for more durable and wind-resistant discs.

2 Rocs - one KC Pro Roc for windy or long approaches, one 178g DX Roc for shorter more precise approaches or if I have to come in with an anhyzer

1 Stratus for backhand opposite turning (turns right for a right hander) approaches, rolling shots, recoveries from the rough

1 putter - Banger soft putt
