I am in a wporld of pain and hurt.
Today my dog Zane, who, besides my wife, was the love of my life and the source of much of my joy, died of a massive aneurism while on a walk in the mountains.
He was 5 years old.
There is nothing more to say.
He was the finest dog in the world.
R.I.P.
My best friend is gone.
I just got back from one of our favorite rides.
Thanks for all of the kind words, he meant SO, so much to me.
It is really helping, along with my friends here in the Tetons.
I hope you don't mind all of the photos, it is my own indulgence.

I'm sorry man. Must be an awful feeling, but at least you two were together doing something you both love.

I'm so incredibly sorry. I can only imagine (and fear) what that pain feels like. I don't care what anyone says, the death of a dog is just as hard as that of a person. Harder, in some ways.

Damn man, I get sad just reading this. Five years old is way too young too.
I hope he's in a better place, chasing three legged rabbits or something.__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ________________

Sorry to hear of your loss. +++vibes+++
- Remember that the pain of their passing is never so great as the joy they brought you during life.
A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.
When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.
He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.
After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed There was no fence.
As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.
When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said
that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's Hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.""Powder snow skiing is not fun. It's life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality." -Dolores LaChapelle

Newb here--1st post -- Sorry for your loss. Great dogs like that are a pure joy and will be sorely missed. Mine left 17 yrs ago. Just remember the wonderful spirit he has and the companionship he provided. Cling to those thoughts and they'll provide solace in the days ahead ..... the love he gave you is eternal and will carry on for you and your wife forever.
Take care ....

I would be devastated if my cat suddenly died, but I can only imagine your sadness. It's an amazing feeling when you realize an animal likes you more than just for feeding you.

aaahggg! That is so tough. Like any other part of life we have best friends who share the emotions of that time.
My father (recently retired) lost his best friend about 6mo ago.
That was the first time I'd ever heard him weep.
It does not feel right to think of, but you will find a new companion and Zane will have wanted you to...
Good luck, and enjoy the fond memories....And the greatest ice must crumble when it's flower's time to grow.

Sorry about that man, I know what it its like to lose a close dog. As much as it may not sound like a good plan, but nothing makes it heal better than fresh puppy breath.

I am so sorry man. The same thing happened to our 1-1/2 yr old yellow lab last summer when we were gone on vacation, and it was the hardest thing I"ve ever gone through. I still break up all the time just thinking about him and what he meant to me.
Just think of the good times you guys had together- nothing will make this easier, but it does help a little bit. RIP little buddy.

So sorry to hear that. It scares me to think of my dog meeting any such fate. I can't imagine how bad you must feel.

I'm really sorry to hear that, rideit.
You're right, there's nothing to say, but your love for him is obvious and he'll always be with you in your heart. The kind of love you have for Zane is powerful and ever-lasting. It broke my heart to read your post.

Rideit- when I first read this, the thoughts of what happened with my dog last summer came rushing into my head. One of the things that helped me a lot was the kind words and wisdom of the people of this board. I think it might be worth it for you to go through some of the posts in my old thread when you want to, it'll help.
My dog was my best friend and it hurt more than anything to lose him, but it helped knowing that I gave him the best life I possibly could while I had him. Maybe because it was the first time I had suffered such a close loss, but his passing taught me to live my life to the fullest, and take advantage of everything we have, while we have it.
