It seems like everyone is going carbon, hoping for that next KOM. Here's my answer to that. 32 pounds of "Holy Shit, Steel Is Fun."

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Sweet ride, YMJC. Glad I'm not the only one with a >30lb steel hardtail.
    No longer stuck.

Some updates: new fork (Revelation RCT3), bars, stem, and chainguide. Bike lost two pounds, rides higher in travel up front, and has a more upright riding position (no more ass over bars). Feels like a whole new ride. Stoked.
All I know is that I don't know nothin'... and that's fine.

Thought about putting a Totem on the front, but I like having the Lyrik Coil U-Turn a lot for climbing long steeps and certain DH flow trails. Wish they had made a Totem Coil U-Turn.

My town bike, built from a '92 S works M2 frame that I bought in 93. No bosses for rear discs, 1" steerer and 27mm seatpost, so I had to improvise. Bought the fork, pedals and bottle cage new, everything else came from my old parts bin or the LBS boneyard.

First MTB since having a rigid BRC growing up in Calgary in the early 90's. Bought used from a good buddy. I think it weighs about 34-35lbs and since I don't know any better it seems fine for climbing, awesome for descending and fine for the Whistler bike park at my skill level.

2011 Trek Scratch Air 8, 180mm/170mm with upgrades:
    Fox 36 Vanilla 180mm RC2 fork
    Hope Pro 2 hubs
Stan's Arch EX wheels with Conti Mountain King 2.4 tubeless tires
    Shimano XT brakes
Reverb dropper post and Chromag seat
    Chromag Fubars 780mm bar
Shimano SLX Shadow+ clutch rear derailleur (no chain guide)
    Raceface flats for pedals

Quite the upgrade from the BetterReConsider. A great one bike quiver. Wouldn't worry about changing anything, just enjoy a lot of nice little modern details that's been added to it
