I stopped watching Baseball when he left in '86. Seriously.

nice paragraph on his wiki page:
Weaver holds the dubious distinction of being ejected from more games than anyone in American League history, with 99 ejections to his credit and is well known for the humor that often accompanied the ejections. During one particular tirade with an umpire, Weaver headed to the dugout screaming, "I'm going to check the rule-book on that"- to which the umpire replied- "here, use mine." Weaver shot back- "that's no good- I can't read Braille." He was also notorious for giving profanity-laced interviews.

Smoke like a chimney, drink like a fish, gamble and chase women all your life and see where it gets you.

...I better get to work on the gambling and chasing women parts.

"I don't understand where these questions are coming from Tom and that's about it for managers corner go fuck yourself and the fuck with your show coming up next..."

Wow we know who Winnebago's Dad is now. It's a fucking shame they don't build them like that anymore.

I would simply like to say that Kiko Garcia wasn't half the shortstop Mark Belanger (R.I.P.) was.

Where have you gone, Mike Cuellar? A screwball turns his lonely eyes to you.

Jesus, I never heard (or heard of) that before. It's hard to believe that was for real. Did that really go out over the air? Or am I just gullible?

Loved Earl's take on Terry Crowley.

When I was 8, 9, 10 years old (1969-71 O's), I simply couldn't appreciate the possibility that the Orioles would not win their division (and always thought they should win it all - which they should have). Really. Of course, I also believed in Santa Claus until I was 9 (and only learned the truth when my Mom told me, thinking I had already figured it out).

Cal Ripken is great and all, but my baseball mind is irretrievably mired in the glory days of Brooks and Frank Robinson (separated at birth, but reunited by the baseball gods), Boog Powell, Paul Blair, Dave Johnson, Don Buford, Mark Belanger, Elrod Hendricks/Andy Etchebarren, Mike Cuellar, Dave McNally, Jim Palmer, .... It's never been any better for Baltimore.

    Fuck Peter Angelos.

Lou Pinella learned his moves from the Earl weaver school of umpire baiting. His office tirades are pretty similar also.

earl was great, growing up "as a Yankee fan, Weaver managed teams were feared. Great Weaverism...You can't defend against the run homer".
