    Spancered?

    Alternate title, Fishing Proform.

Who's got the hook up? (pun intended)

    It's True
Yes kids, like skiing and snowboarding there is a flow of less than retail fishing equipment. It may be the shop worker discount, or it could be you're receiving the pro deal (tournament fisherman, guide, product tester). I've benefited a couple times. I'm wondering if anyone is hooked up with Shimano or Daiwa.

Product tester for an unnamed plug company.
Also multitudes of shop hookups and a Shimano hookup so I can get Jap market reels like this one (reel on the left):

    Shimano Calcutta Conquest 400

Sorry, just a wierd fly rod hook up, and I only get 4 a year. Wish I could get a reel proform but no such luck. I hear the Orvis proform is decent but you have to be a Orvis Endorsed Guide, and that's more hassle than it's worth, though I believe we have a fellow mag that has a brother who carries the title.

As for your request, we need to find someone on the pro bass circut or off shore for the hook up.

You could always apply for a guide lic and then approach the company of choice.

The Orvis deal is good and you don't have to be a guide, just involved with preservation of the resource. The % off seems to vary quite a bit depending on what you are ordering.

FRL (love the name BTW) nice reels. I love my Calcutta 251. Makes a great drift fishing rig for steelhead and salmon.

Any word when the Curado 301s will be hitting North America? I know the equivalent is out in Japan (speedmaster 201 I think). I wish it had the 7:1 gearing the hdsv 201s do.

I'm not sure. I know it was a year or two before the Calcutta TE's (toned down Conquest) came to the US. I kind of want one of the DC's for light tackle striper fishing from a boat.

The Conquest 400 is a monster for surf casting as long as you don't fill it with sand.

The only problem with that is that orvis is how we make fun of gapers

Because yanno that unconditional warranty sucks sooooo bad.
    Getting free replacements sucks!

...and I thought you were going to point out the fact that I can't catch fish and randomly throw gear into the ocean.

What do you use? An ulgy stick and an old martin?

Orvis, Sage, Loomis, all can be gaper sticks in the wrong hands. It's the Indian, not the arrow. I use the best gear I can find for a good price.

What makes them gapers is using any of these $500 wonder sticks to throw a 2/0 red and white bucktail with 1 oz of split shot and insist the Red bit it.

One of the best fisherman I've ever seen used an old martin combo. This guy was solidly in the 10%.

I know orvis makes good gear and its cheap, however cheaper rods from cabelas cast way better. I wouldn't be caught dead with a sage though, ok they cast nice but they break like no tomorrow. (Especially when fishing for salmon for some reason an oz of lead hurts the expensive rods! )

*sidenote* AK says an unweighted fly is one that is less than a quarter oz meaning you could use up to a 1/4 oz jig head in fly fishing only waters and still be using an unweigted fly */sidenote*
Lets see I fish with fenwick fiberglass (7.5 ft #6 line) a cabelas stowaway 5pc 5wt. and an ellkhorn 8-9wt 9.5 ft. looking at getting something by TFO next maybe a 7wt. I also have an ugly stick 10 wt but only use it for halibut fishing.

The real question is how many of you actually wear vests? :P

Orvis rods cast great if you're not using lead to load the rod.

My personal experience with sage has been good. I have a 4wt over 20 years old. First rod I ever built. How many have you broken?

I did break a 9wt once while landing a steelhead. Operator error. The nice thing about breaking a Sage, Orvis or Loomis is the warranty if you need it. I had a new rod in a week.

    How is Cabela's warranty?

But, sometimes you don't want to waste resources when castability doesn't count for much and durability bouncing around in a skiff does. All my fly rod halibut were caught on an ulgy stick.

Is that a utarded flyfishing site? I've never visited the state. Is the fishing any good?

Total absence of anadromous fish, sad indeed. I've heard about the beer and dating at BYU, but I thought the snow was the greatest on earth.
