You can't have a weak stomach playing in this sandbox. Stick with your strategy, never trade on emotion.

I’d be real happy with a short in yesterday’s close. Let’s see if that trade holds up. It should.

So say you were waaaay cash heavy and don't find the current market valuation and volatility attractive for medium-long holds - basically waiting for a DJIA/S&P [some number or a tell] to trigger a series of buys into mutuals/indexes. What's your trigger before returning to equities? If fear hits and we enter bear/recession - there's got to be opportunity for people who are cash-liquid right?
I'm obviously unsophisticated but I did well earlier this year buying in around DJIA 22K and exiting just shy of 27K. I'm interested in re-entering and investing but it seems silly to not just hold and see where we are when this ride stops shaking so wildly. I get it - trying to time is bad - but no way I'd wade into this mess right now. I guess I'm waiting for deals.

WeWTF?

Tumblr is being sold for $3 million, a 99.7% destruction of the $1.1 billion Yahoo paid for the porn site in 2013. When the previous sentence said "porn," you were shaken. Why? Because the nice people who backed Tumblr (Union Square Ventures, USV), before they sold their shares, advertised the platform as something much more benign, worthy of Tide ads. No, it was a porn site. 22-28% of users were seeing adult content, and after USV sold their shares, when they found religion and opted for censorship, porn was banned and traffic declined by a third in just three months.
This week, there has been a ton of navel gazing and forensic analysis about "what happened to Tumblr?" Nothing happened to Tumblr. As a culture, we are much easier to fool, than convince we've been fooled. And yes, we were fooled. Yahoo didn't mess it up, neither did Verizon. This was a porn site wrapped in creative paper that David Karp and Fred Wilson pumped and dumped to a desperate CEO of an aging internet firm, gasping for new-economy oxygen, for $1.1 billion. A firm with no IP, technology, revenues, or leadership.

verizon rounded up all kinds of turds - aol, yahoo and made them even shittier.
I'm surprised only 25% of tumblr traffic was porn.

Is the stock market going to tank?
Psychopaths are often highly successful, manipulative assholes who feel no empathy or remorse. Sociopaths are people who have difficulty in social situations, can cause harm to others but will feel remorse when they do (although they may repeat the acts). The CEO of WeWork May very well be a psychopath but is almost certainly not a sociopath.
“Unlike sociopaths, psychopaths are unable to form emotional attachments. Psychopaths tend to be aggressive and predatory in nature. They view others as objects for their amusement. Although they lack empathy, psychopaths often have disarming or even charming personalities. They are manipulative and can easily gain people’s trust. They learn to mimic emotions, despite their inability to actually feel them and will appear normal to unsuspecting people. Psychopaths are often well-educated and hold steady jobs.
Some psychopaths are so good at manipulation and mimicry that they have families and other long-term relationships without those around them ever suspecting their true nature. When committing crimes, psychopaths carefully plan every detail in advance and often have contingency plans in place. They will seem unflappable in a crisis.
Unlike their sociopathic counterparts, psychopathic criminals are cool, calm, and meticulous. From a law-enforcement perspective, the “cold-blooded” nature of psychopaths makes them very effective criminals. As such, they are generally more difficult to identify than are sociopaths. Unfortunately, it can be hard to know when a psychopathic predator has targeted you for exploitation.”
