I hedged my long portfolio (dividend yield boring grandpa stocks )against a civil war type US disaster by buying OOTM S & P puts. It's worked really well but not for everyone. Now if I just had a schedule of Trump tweets I would be able to execute in cleaner fashion but so far so good

You’d think the vix would be higher than 25. 40 is usually full panic.

"No one is in a position to dictate to the Chinese people what should or should not be done," Xi said in Mandarin Chinese during the address, according to a translation.

I’m guessing another big loss tomorrow...

The dividend for AT&T is fantastic and the payout ratio is just 38% ($2/$5.15), so those owning AT&T for the dividend, please sleep well at night because your dividend appears safe.

Friedrich believes that AT&T is a stronghold for those who already own the stock, but for those thinking about initiating a new position, he recommends waiting until the Badwill to Price is reduced. The reason we say this is because we are all about "Capital Appreciation through Capital Preservation" and the appreciation part of the equation has suffered lately and may take a while longer before Wall Street decides to like the stock again.

If they hadn't, many would have taken it as a sign the economy was in trouble and it could have been worse. Either way, let it tank. Need a correction.

With an expiration on Friday and no real support below the market it could get wild. Cono knows that expiration week can see options go from .02c to $5. It depends where the balance is on Friday but this is a bad week to accelerate volatility.

Is the stock market going to tank?

Good point. Usually, big moves come after expiration on mondays. But we’ve obviously already have a big move so who knows. January vol was always my favorite. Buy time spreads in July when people are puking the vol.

FedEx loss was directly related to the CEO comments yesterday on a global slowdown of shipping goods and raw materials by FedEx. This is the canary in the coal mine so to speak of the global outlook. It is going to be a wild ride the next 18 months.

FedEx all but came out yesterday and said “The President is an idiot who ruined a good thing.” Somebody’s gotta take the blame (it’s never the company) and that will be the common theme with 4Q/yr-end messaging.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

Yeah, FDX is a deep gash to markets. Down what 30%? The bluest of the blue.

e-mini futures just took a dive below 2500.

Another 10-15% and people might return their Xmas gifts. 30% and they will start thinking normally again.

It was an obscure little trade I did mainly to hedge against meltdowns when I started last November. Lost 7 times in a row as the markets kept going up. Then 1 win took care of all past losses and then some. Wish I could have a schedule of Whitehouse announcements as those are the catalysts for massive movements.

Next time sell some front month against it. Sooner or later you’ll be right, and if it comes to soon you won’t be out much, just let it ride. Or do a 1x2. Works out nicely when a rising mkt finally collapses.

So, I am taking care of my aged father's finances. He's got a bunch sitting as cash that I need to plant somewhere safe. Any better ideas than an 18 month CD pulling 2.7%?
