The one thing good for a usa company is boeing can take this time to fix the 737 max. quarratine engineers and test pilots and work on it until it is resolved.

if they are not doing this, they are idiots.

Is the stock market going to tank?

You have to wonder if anyone big has blown out? That would destroy the ceiling on implied vols, and probably what’s required for more.

Depends on how much risk was on. People are definitely putting it on now.

I have not looked. But I imagine it’s the front months that are jacked the most. A time spread with the right hedge might work if this carry’s on.

And I can only imagine what it would take to Trump allow that.
It would be such a capitulation for him that he would rather destroy...well...umm...anything.

Until something better than airplanes moves people great distances in a short amount of time, Boeing should be ok*

*if they can withstand a cash crunch right now but even absent govt assistance, with their revolver, etc they should have 2B in cash by year end. This factors in size able write downs and delays in deliveries this year.

Southwest been flying those old 737 for years. Why change now. Don’t need to upgrade.

Kodak was a great company that failed because it was disrupted first by digital cameras followed by a coup de grâce from phones. Boeing is not in the process of being disrupted by a new technology.

That's what the "Beam me up, Scotty" response was meant to convey.

Bonds are moving opposite to stocks now. That might be a good thing. Some liquidity in bonds

Digital camera technology that Kodak practically invented, btw.

Yeah lots of people say why didn't company X just pivot but we're literally talking about transforming from one type of thing to another type of thing. From X to Y.

Digital cameras are semiconductors. Kodak was in the chemical processing business. In a sense Kodak did pivot, it is now Eastman Chemical with $10 billion in annual revenue and nearly 15,000 employees.

When my first test order for 10000 bags sold out and I asked about a reorder I was told management didn't think bags were "sexy". I told the product manager that i felt buying at $2.35 and selling out at $24 retail sounded sexy to me. Digital upper management was in bunker mode. Film division ruled. 100 year old Corps seem to rot from the top in the age of the MBA leaders. IME

The best minds leave early. Donothingds remain. B&L, Xerox, same story. My next door neighbor literally turned off the lights in one of the most profitable divisions (World Wide Parts Supply) and got an extra $100k for sticking around when he passed Go on his way out the door. Good for him.

I just realized that Meathelmet may have meant British Airways by BA, not Boeing. Hard for me to imagine either going under, but these are strange times.
