Cool TR: Hitting the reset button. 5.7.07

Here in the Front Range, May began with a continued streak of warm temperatures and calm winds. That, combined with the brown layer, caused a rapid change in snow conditions. The pali chair closed over at the basin, and the snow off of chair one was punchy and rotten. There was still hope, snow and cold temps were forecasted for the weekend.

Hitching a ride in green Georgetown.

I met up with Sean, Gary, and David for slushy rock dodging.

    Sean.

    Gary's turn.

    5.3.07
    It starts snowing in Georgetown.

    5.4.07
    Still snowing.

5.6.07 - Closing Day at Loveland.
With 5-10" of snow in the previous 36 hrs. closing day promised to be as good as or better than last year.

It was one of those days where you only skied with a few people and you saw all your friends from the lift. Then, at the end of the day, all you friends where like "where were you today?". I tried to take as many photos as I could between the fast hiking and the smooth buttery pow lines.

    George on crack.

We ran into James who is 16 and is really good at skiing switch in powder.

Today was the employee party up at Luvland. With the summer work season knocking on the door, I decided to take advantage of the cool temps, cloudcover, and 12" of fresh powder, by taking a walk.

I've skied numerous lines off the flanks of Mt. Sniktau before, but I had yet to ski off the true summit. With skiable snow blanketing even the most wind scoured side of Sniktau, Dead Sheep gully, I decided to bag it.

Waiting out a brief snow shower near the summit.

    Some healthy cornices.

    Clickin in.

1500' and about 50 turns later.

The line from the valley. (center, off the saddle.)

    Back home.

Hooooleeee shit your pictures are improving!

Nice fuggin' work, man! Some seriously quality stuff in there. Really like the lines in this one:

And JEEEEEZUS George went large off crack rock. Nick, SS, and I were just barely clearing the rocks on the left and it felt like 12-15 ft. That's gotta be 25-30 or more!

    Hell fyurkin' yeah!

Excellent. Hopefully winter gives us a few more before going into hibernation for the summer.

That's true I didn't see any skin this year like in years past. Linda was talking about it though.
