my least favorite part about fly fishing is what I call
"Knot Management"
wind knots, getting your line hung up around rocks when the current pulls it donw stream, getting the line tangled in your sandals, etc etc

Nothing quite like watching a fish move to your fly, 1 to 1 reeling is so much more sporting

The light weight of it all I guess, plus that thing about how trout don't live in ugly places, although one of my favorite areas for nice browns...here in the East...is around/under an old mill on the Battenkill in NYS. They hide under it during the day and venture out and about in the low-light of evening, night and early AM. What a nice bow!

Feeling superior to and making fun of common fishermen folk.
I also like that its a more holistic experience. It involves an understanding of the entire environment and lets you connect more with your surroundings.

Standing balls deep in a mountain river at 01:00hrs searching for sea run migratory trout.
An Atlantic salmon or wild trout taking a fly I've tied (never fish anything else now).
The fight.
An otter swimming so close in the dark I could spit on it, and all the other amazing wildlife I see at close hand.
Having a whisky with a fishing buddy, then heading into a cold river as the whisky warms you.
Getting my hands on fucking stunning egg wagon wild fish, and then putting them back in the river.
I don't ski so much now as our mountains are only in shape once every few years, and flying to the Alps and chasing storms for six weeks every year would probably cost me my house and kids! But I do get revved up about fly fishing and deer huntinGone fishing
