starter lenese for my new DSLR?
So psyched!
Just placed my order for a Canon EOS-1DS Mark II and have a few questions about leneses:
Is the Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 a good lenese to start with? I don't wanaa spend too mcuh on tehm cause my budget is pretty tight.
Thanks!"It is not the result that counts! It is not the result but the spirit! Not what - but how. Not what has been attained - but at what price.

I would go for Sigma (24-70/2.8 EX) over Tamron... But I guess I'm a bit partial to Sigma's, considering that I have that lenses Macro version myself.
And later, get a real tele- or wideangle (depending on what cha planning on shooting off).Originally Posted by RootSkier

not sure what your background is really and it might considered boring, but for the price and performance, you cannot beat a 50mm prime.
if you want zoom, Ive got a lens you can borrow indefinitely while you find what you and your budget wants
also, might as well get a lens you're going to keep
the 50mm is a lens youll always have a use for.

You bought a $7,000 camera and you are going to put a cheap lens on it? Isn't that like buying a pair of iggies and mounting them tele?
Agree with hemas, have both, and prefer sigma EX to tamron for off-branded lenses.

its like buying Lotus 138s only to put on Marker M38s and ski rear entry boots
and that analogy is still not extreme enough...
It's like buying Lotus 138s and duct taping your Birkenstocks to the topsheets!Originally Posted by blurred

boy, this sure is a serious forum down here.
And summit- B&H has those leneses for a mere 70 bucks."It is not the result that counts! It is not the result but the spirit! Not what - but how. Not what has been attained - but at what price.

Why buy a lens? just put some saran wrap over the mount and smear vaseline on it!
I'm *DEAD* serious. Cancel the order and buy a 5D and real glass. That giives you a $4000 lens budget instead of a $100 lens budget. Plus your camera will be half the size and half the weight.Last edited by Summit; 04-26-2007 at 03:16 PM.
