I would have assumed you would have done the “through hike” (run) route. How come you didn’t? Logistics?
How was the climb up to little Annapurna?

Jeez, I just started running in April for the first time, in well, ever, and here I thought I was making good gains to this point and was in decent shape, then I come in here and see what you maniacs are doing. I will now slink back to my corner of dreadfully slow zone 2 runs.

Do it! Midweek is always better but the rest of this week will likely be the end of the decent weather. Aasgard is the only really tough part. Once you are up that, it's smooth sailing.
Peaches - I stopped doing the through hike a few years. I prefer to go down Aasgard for a few reasons. You don't have to deal with shuttling cars, you get to see the Core (the reason to do the Enchantments) twice vs once, and you get the major pain of the descent over reasonably quickly. As for Little Annapurna, I love the climb up there and the views are phenomenal. I want to do Witches Tower and Dragontail next time I go. This crew would not have been up for it.

Carpy- do you use a HRM? I have never been able to manage pacing without one personally. And even then sometimes I'd get caught up running above planned pace because I felt good or thought I could somehow bank time. The only time I went under 1:20 for a half I bonked hard at mile 19 on a hill for the full and took an hour to limp though the last 10K.
Age and time off will humble you too. I started running again this spring after a good 10yrs off because of knee issues. I pushed myself to see where the top end was and at 54 I was still able to get under 20 min for 5K but I'm close to 1min/mi off top end in my 30's. Mostly I stick to zone 2 these days as well.

Legs were begging to get out again so had a lazy, late morning start to do Mailbox Peak. 7.5mi and 4000ft. and an I90 zone classic. Midweek is great as the parking lot was empty (people will be parking over a mile down the road on Saturday). Feeling strong and wish the season wasn't rapidly closing. Started in the fog but got up above the clouds for the classic views. Ran down the new trail (much less steep) to let the legs really stretch and got a new PR. Man, I love this time of year.

Dang, so pretty it’s almost cheesy. I miss the NW this time of year. But surfing 3x a week isn’t bad either.

yeah I been rocking monitor for 5-6 years now and have become accustomed to watching it and doing lots of 2 zone stuff. Or in real hot weather watching for the heat-induced cardio drift etc. A week later now mulling on my poor performance I'm pretty convinced my main issue (besides begin older, heavier and maybe dumber) was starting on the creatine/ multivitamin combo and then not drinking enough water over the week. I remember looking at my heart rate and it was not that high because it felt like I couldn't even turn my legs over quick enough to even get it up. I just looked and in this race I was ave 151bpm and and previous healthy race on same course was 177 with a max of 200, so that is interesting

After a brief hiatus from running, got back out today. Visiting my sons at BYU, so went and hit Kyhv (Squaw) Peak. Bummed I missed the height of fall color, but it was still a beautiful day. Felt real good to be back on the trails.

Running, Anyone...?
Anyone dealt with Achilles tendinitis?
I did a lot of miles last year, and started to feel really stiff/sore ankles, particularly in the mornings. In retrospect I’m realizing it was actually Achilles, not the ankles themselves. I kept up around 20-30 miles/week over winter/spring, and then I started to feel discomfort in the Achilles while running. A combo of that plus getting sick and some time-consuming home reno turned a short rest into about 3 months off running.
I tried to restart over the past few weeks and was surprised to immediately feel stronger pain in the Achilles even after the rest - pretty constant on short, light runs.
I started working with a PT last week, but curious if anyone here has dealt with similar? It’s been pretty demoralizing going from nearly 200 miles last Oct to a whopping 16 miles this month. ?

I was really struggling with insertion point Achilles pain after resuming running a whole back. I really eased into it (like 2mi a few times a week for 2 weeks, then 3 mi, etc). But I think the thing that has really solved it is.... weight training. I do heavy seated calf raise a couple of times a week and the a Achilles has been good for a long while now, even after 3h runs.
ride bikes, climb, ski, travel, cook, work to fund former, repeat.

agree. I'm in a similar place as CS. Last ran 10 or so years ago. Did a marathon and said I'm done. That was also 40 pounds ago. I used to run 7:30/mi, half and marathon pace like 8:30. Completly stopped.
Started reading up on this zone 2 stuff and decided I'm ok with 12:30/mi at this point. Just plod miles on the trails and that makes me feel good. I use apple watch for monitoring heart rate (change screen to heart zone) and that's probably good enough for me. IDK if i'll stick w/ it with ski season coming up but I'm enjoying it. If I had to run roads I'd probably get board fast. I have a decent trail system two blocks from my house which is incredible.
on the apple watch (ultra) front it's been a game changer since I added cellular to it. Leave phone at home, load podcasts to it pre run and connect my bone conducting headphones to it. A setup that has it all (except camera). It's nice.

Whew !
We got through first 5 days of my little running bootcamp here on the Big Island with 55 miles , 7000 vert over 15 hours so far !
Feeling pretty good ! Each day has been broken into 2-3 runs in different spots to give the feel perpetual motion in amazing scenery …. I have some pics to upload later …
And it has been awesome making new friends with these like minded souls I corralled off the internet to join me !
Today is super each race course recon and bib pickup for this half marathon tomorrow
Legs are slightly fatigued , hope to power rest today and giver a go at the 6am start tomorrow !!!
