The snow finally melted enough for me to take these Zoom 4% out for a test run this afternoon. Holy Smokes! I know I'm late to the party but these things are amazing. Feel like spring loaded run machines. Did easy 3 miler with 1/2 mile uptempo just to see how they felt. I was instantly up and cruising at 5:50/mile pace like it was nothing. I needed to recalibrate cadence, felt like I was gonna trip up with unexpected pop.

Then I went home and traded out for the huge Hokas for another 3 miles and they felt like lead slippers. I guess that is the point, trainers vs racers.

Got out for a couple runs this past week in Seattle. South facing slopes seem to be in good shape with a lot of snow gone. North facing will still be awhile. Thursday got in 6.5mi and 3800ft and didn't have any snow even at the summit at 5400ft. Hopefully we'll get a few sunny days in again soon.

Quick 4.5mi for me while visiting Sun Valley. Coming from the Seattle, the elevation was killing me.

I'm the opposite of fast but I love how easy it is to run. Been trying to do some more shorter runs (1-1.25h instead of 2h+) lately instead of fewer longer ones and it's finally gotten to the point where running feels as comfortable and normal as walking. Been running regularly for like 6 years after finding it later in life and this is the first time I reached that equilibrium point. It's nice, especially when I'm plodding along the single track fisherman's trails watching the herons stalk trout in the river...

    Nice shots ISBD!!!

I got out last night for a sunset run after the kids were in bed. Gorgeous sunset, clouds, the mountains looking majestic.

I'm in a similar boat in some ways. I've also been running regularly for about 6 years. All along I've been pushing to run longer distances, but mostly I do it because I like it and I can do it in beautiful places by myself.

Because of Covid and taking care of kids while working I have much less flexibility about when and wear I run. I feel fortunate to have some neighborhood trails and some beautiful single track within ten minutes. But I miss running in the mountains and the local trails started getting old a while back. To keep it interesting I started doing some speed work. I've been doing sets of 6-10 20-30 second strides a couple times a week, and some 3 minute repeats as well. Will start adding some steady state efforts soon. Might even set foot on a track!

Well, what do you know, it works (duh). Not only am i getting faster, but easy runs are easier and hills don't feel as steep. I'm still not fast but in the absence regular long runs in beautiful places, getting faster is also fun. Long term goal is now sub-20 minute 5k. I'm not close yet but progress has been quicker than expected so far.

Most athletic endeavors I've taken on in my life were one's that I knew I could be pretty good at. But I'm not a natural born distance runner. With running I've always known that my ceiling is something like "faster than most of the other guys who suck." This has actually been quite liberating as I can have goals but feel pretty much zero need to compare myself to anyone else.

I need to start doing some speed work, too. I've been doing a lot of weights and HIIT and have seen my trail running suffer lately. Did a 9mi, 4500ft run yesterday and was significantly slower than last time I did it. As frustrated as I was with the time, it was a gorgeous day in the mountains.

My 15yo daughter and I did a run (with a bunch of scrambiling, 4th class and hiking) this morning in the La Plata Mountains of SW CO.

If you know the area, we went Columbus basin-Lewis Mountain-ridge traverse to Snowstorm peak-burro road-notch-Kennebec-KBR back to car

Spent last 9 months rehabbing ankle including 3 months of intensive PT followed by 5 days a week work on bosu ball, bands, etc. Slowly working mileage up, to about 30mi a week with no pain.

Went out for first 13+ mi run yesterday in the Indian Peaks to Red Deer Lake.

Of course, feel awesome at mile 10.5 I took a walking break to eat a few fruit snacks. And while walking, fucked my ankle again. Now RICEing at home, barely able to bare weight.

Need to figure out some better pattern. I don't have a better outlet to clear my head than running. But whenever i start feeling strong I go and fuck it up.

I took up riding to get my fix. Running hurts too much anymore. I am always fighting something that is nagging at me after a run. My body just doesn't agree with it anymore, I guess. Hope you guys aren't that unfortunate. Vibes and best of luck.

Everyone's physiology is different but I certainly noticed fewer nagging issues when I made the conscious choice to run more slowly with my heart rate as my tachometer. Staying firmly in the aerobic zone has made my running so much more enjoyable and, I hope, sustainable. Ain't gonna win no races tho...

Able to move around today. So not broken. Hopefully just out for a few weeks. And then lots of time on a stability disc, etc.

Yeah, it's def helped me as well. About 90% of my mileage is ~130-140bpm or even lower.

When I run at elevation, that certainly jacks up another 10-15bpm.

Will say though, hard to not run fast downhill. It's just fun.

Yup, running the downs is such a treat, especially up high! I did a quick loop up kelso ridge and down the standard route on torreys a couple weeks back. I had such a hard time not just bombing the entire descent and making myself all sorts of sore but I mostly kept it between the lines.

I think that lifted Sienna could have made it through the adjacent 4x4 rock gate .
Rest up, hope you get back to 100% promptly.

Watched what appeared to be a stock 4-runner eat shit on it on my way out.
