Despite the Ask TGR title, this thread has become the go-to spot for tennis talk so I jammed it into the warm bowels of the PR.

That said, I picked up two completely mint Yamaha ceramic 97 DX rackets at the good will recently. They have a really nice feel, almost original price graphite-like. Some sort of sliding weight mechanism to change whether the frame is top heavy or more neutral. I recall that these guys made some really nice rackets back in the day and then I think some fracas with Wilson led to them discontinuing their tennis stuff.

Anyone ever hit with a Yamaha or the one I mention in particular? I cant find anything online about the hitability on this specific frame but will take it for a test drive at the Yee this winter.

my sons play at a pretty high level (5.0+) I'm about 4.0 on the nose. least around here. Went to wilson blades (98) a while back and they are the ticket. Mrs. MT now playing a blade 104 and she's hooked.

7 Days in Hell a HBO mockumentary about the longest tennis match ever. Starring Adam Samberg and Kit Herrington. Good stuff.

Heh, just saw this question from 3 years ago. No, but I've been considering getting in. Have several friends who play and have had pretty good success. Right now my schedule only allows for club matches and a regular sparring partner.

Just hit it with an eastern forehand grip, and wear cutoff jeans. Shit will buff right out

Thinking about a US Open trip this year. Last time I went I never even used my tickets into one of the big stadiums. I spent the whole day in the smaller courts and saw some incredible tennis up close.

Do it. Such a great time. Last time I went was for Roddick's retirement and did the same - spent much of the day on outside courts watching great tennis. Even sat next to Jim Courrier in Armstrong Court watching John Isner and didn't even realize until my wife pointed it out.

Only drawback of a full day there was that I was so hammered on Heinekens by the time Roddick took to the court on Ashe around 9pm and didn't finish until well after midnight.

Started playing/coaching a few months ago after a 10+ year hiatus from the sport. Fucking great game and awesome for fitness if you're doing it right.

Pro-tip: co-poly strings at low tensions (like 30-40lbs) will have you spinning the ball like Nadal. It's nuts.

Tennis is an expensive game? From a lift served skiing viewpoint?

A four dollar can of balls is busting your balls?

I don't know where to post this, so I'll just do it here...

I love how in the time of a tiebreak they both started figuring out the rackets and started wailing away. Very entertaining.
The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.
