Just curious - did you have a standard mountaineering axe or a recurve, and would it have made a difference? I ask since I generally use the former and wonder if I sometimes ought to bring the latter.

Thanks for another gripping TR. Awesome. If it weren't for trips like that, getting to the top or successfully skiing down wouldn't be so damn exciting and fulfilling....it's part of mountaineering. I bet if something similar ever happens again, you'll be better equipped mentally to deal with it. Fear and the mental game can really be a huge expendeture of energy.

I have climbed this a few times by different routes and have always wished I could ski the descent because it's a bitch. One of these days I'll ski it. Great bump, I tries to search for this one a while ago and couldn't find it
