Just updated to include some useful topics discussed recently - early 2012 - 13 season.
There is now so much discussion about backcountry gear that its best to find that information with a search imo.
If there's something good that I've missed please point it out. I'll add to the 2 posts which are kind of master links

I just took an AIARE course with the Colorado Mountain School, run out of Rocky Mountain National Park and would certainly recommend it.
I was slow to discovering the idea of touring, and am well passed the age of being a careless and indestructible kid. Before getting out there and putting my life in the hands of fate or putting my trust in somebody else, I felt I had to get educated.
Great class, reasonable, and convenient. Totally recommend it.

Any chance the links could be updated? Don't know what they were originally, but the weather links seem to just go to MEC.

Interesting. I'm sure some of you have heard of digging via the "V-shaped conveyor method", and specifically this incident, but I had not. Makes a lot of sense.

Will try to add stuff and resurrect this thread. Post useful links here if you have them
Might prune out the gear threads unless they are timeless
