Utards: Car rental advice for this Fri, Sat, Sun.

I am going to be staying in SLC and driving up LCC to Alta/Bird this Fri, Sat, and Sunday. The weather looks to be clear, so should I just get a cheap 2 wheel drive econo ride (cheaper) and take a chance (and maybe buy chains if needed) or get a 4x4 which is way more expensive?

are there some shuttles that run up to alta from right before the canyon/mtn? driving and then catching the shuttle might be a good bet.

Right after reserving my economy yugo mobile I see this:

The UTA ski bus may be a good idea.
