    Luxembourg?

looks like lumberg is sending me to luxembourg in a few weeks. and possibly again in another month.

i'll be dealing with the geeks all day, so what is there worth doing at night? any mags around that area? i'm thinking if the trip lands near a weekend i might extend the trip to tour around. where should i go from there for a weekend?

    thanks for any advice!

Luxembourg is a very scenic area. Lot's of nice forests, limestone cliffs, waterfalls and stuff. I hear the mountain biking is great.

Your not far from Belgium, which is one of my favorite places.

Or take a drive up the Mosel river in Germany. Very pretty place.

    Have fun!

If you like cars and have wheels, the Nurburgring is a cool place to visit. Not too far at all. Cochem, Braubach and Bacharach are all very pretty places too. Do a bit of wine tasting maybe.

Otherwise there's the battlefields of Verdun to have a look at.

drive to cologne (1 1/2 hours if you know where and how to go ) and have a kölsch and see the Dom.
otherwise go climbing (if you're into that kind of stuff). Perfect Sandstone in Berdorf.

Yep, lot's to see... Depending on weather, Paris and Fontainebleau ain't that far off either (good weather, bouldering in 'bleau is world class... Guess where the F-something grade originated ...).

If you're stuck in Luxembourg you should know it's a boring, landlocked shithole. If you don't have use of a car, get your drinking hat on. A bit of nice architecture but that's about it. Having lived there for 7 months I would not go back.
If you're into your history, Bastogne is pretty close to the north, the U.S army fought some hard battles there in WWII.

Yeah, they have a Sherman tank right in the middle of the town square.

I recommend you walk the grounds of beautiful Marlinspike Manor. If you're very lucky, things might get a little Snowy.

    Mmm, I just delighted myself.

Focus on France, go and see Metz at night, cool town. Paris is within a 3 hrs drive.

Hit the Alsace and Lorraine region for opulent meals, whine women, song.

Avoid that shithole with the name of Cologne.

Just my 0.02 from former experience, second Hayduke, he knows. Luxembourg is full of overly correct, boring pyjama people.

    Go to Strassbourg!!!
Fucking incredible city. Food, Wine, Culture, History, Architecture, Ruins, Castles, God, Alsace is magnifique.
    Just GO.
    You will thank this suggestion.

Take a tour of wineries in the Vosgue, go to Barr, eat at 'La Maison Rouge'...Go down to Colmar, into the Jura, and come back up through the Black Forest in Germany, through St, Wendel, and back to Luxembourg.

    GO!

Fuck Paris. For a major city Cologne's where it's at if you're single or basically don't like snotty fucking Parisians. Brussels isn't too far away either and well worth the trip for any beer lover. Even A-Dam is as close as Paris.

Day trips: Go to Trier in Germany. Very close to Lux., beautiful old town, and kick ass wine/beer. Metz in France is really nice as well, as is Liege in Belgium.

Liege has a nice red light district. So I've heard.

    Brussels is a clusterfuck.

Going to second the Belgium vote... Amazing food, beer, etc.

Cant remember the name, but there is a solid castle that covers the peak of a mtn. that was fun to check out... Any Mag's know the one I am referencing (and yes I am aware that there are more than a few castles on high ground in Luxembourg, but this one is pretty unique)? This was considered the Fort Knox of Castles...

also, if you are a cycling fan, check the schedule and see what "classics" might be happening close by while you are there, they usually start late Feb and run though March (e.g. Paris-Rouboux, Liege - Bastogne (sp?) Leige, Flanders, etc)...seeing a "classic" is, well, a classic experience. Lots of drinking and partying in the start and finish towns usually...

Have you been writing frightening verse to a buck-toothed girl who lives there?

Even better, find an absolutely gaudy euro skin-suit, and TDF time trial helmet, and accidentally 'join' the racers on some unpeopled stretch...just roll right into the peloton, babbling nonsense in a made up language.

    On Mushrooms.

    Ah, the memories....

14 yr old thread bump. Decent chance I'll be relocating to Lux. Anyone else living there or with recent firsthand experience?
Everybody's gotta have parkas. I'm talking custom parkas. Two words: "client development." They see all of you out there cutting the powder in your matching Schweikart & Cokely parkas, you'll make an impression. You will thank me later.

Did you win the lottery and need to shelter some earnings? Believe that’s the only reason anyone ends up on Luxembourg.
