Our world is full of surrender at the first sign of adversity, do not give up when the challenge meets you, meet the challenge. Through perseverance comes the rewards, the rewards that make life so enjoyable.

Seize the day, trusting little in the future.

if you want something, go after it. if you want to screw someone over, look DEEP in your heart and realize Karma is a bitch

1997, Patrick Roy [Av's goalie] vs Mike Vernon [5'9" Wings goalie]? Maybe that's one of the vids. Poor Roy [pussy].

Wow. This brings back memories (and shows my age). The fight was in a play-off game between the Boston Bruins and the NY Rangers. I was 9 and just starting to get into hockey. The Bruins were taking it to the Rangers up in Boston. First, Derrick Sanderson kicked the living shit out of Brad Park. Then, be beat up Rod Gilbert. Basically, he was running havoc on the Rangers for the first 2 games in Boston. I went to the Garden for the third game. The puck for the first period was dropped, and three seconds into the game, the entire Ranger bench emptied, and all the Rangers pounced on Derrick Sanderson. The brawl lasted for what seemed like 30- 45 mins. THere was something like 200 mins. in penalties during the first period alone.
The Rangers won the game 4-3.
    It was fucking great!

    Here is a write-up I just found on-line:
" The Bruins won the opening face-off and Giacomin made the save on Phil Esposito. The line of Derek Sanderson, Don Marcotte and Ed Westfall replaced the Esposito line to the boos of the crowd. Just before the face-off, Giacomin skated to Sanderson and reportedly said "We're being paid to get you tonight." On the face-off, the puck went behind the Ranger net and Sanderson went after it. He was immediately smashed into the boards by Walt Tkaczuk and Arnie Brown. Then he collided with Dave Balon. Sanderson dropped his stick and gloves and went at Balon, which brought Brad Park and Bill Fairbairn into the fight. Don Marcotte joined in. Then the game erupted into a series of fights. The fans, turned on by the mayhem, threw eggs, apple cores, an aerosol shave cream container, oranges and other debris. When Sanderson was ejected from the game, he screamed at referee John Ashley. Police grappled with fans trying to attack the Bruins players at the Bruins players bench. The game erupted into more fights and brawls on the ice and fans threw eggs, nails, coins and other garbage. It took 19 minutes to play the first 91 seconds of the game. When the most violent, penalty-ridden game in playoff history[to this time] was over, the teams had set a record 38 penalties for 174 minutes. Almost forgotten was that the Rangers won 4-3."

Closest thing to The Hansen Bros. ...ever!!!

aWhat's up with the whole stopping midnight to hug each-other and pull on each others' shirts? That is the weirdest fight I've ever seen. I love the refas just staying out of it until they're dispensed enough of their rage

I put some youtubes and stills in this thread which will hopefully become an NSR TR when I get some pics back from friends/family.
and some more in this one

^^^and while we're talking slap shot, some of the stills in that thread are from the Marquette Iron Rangers, the first pro team that Jack, Steve, and Jeff Carlson played for. Yooper and Jakeshow know this. Jakeshow and I had a middle school principal that played with those guys (remember Bill Ostwald Jake?). That movie was a big deal in my neighborhood growing up. I bet Somers and Lunneys and Brumms are all still around Marquette telling Carlson brothers stories. They say the old Palestra where they first played had no glass, so there would be fans getting hit with sticks and pucks and setting beer bottles on the boards and shit. them were the days.

^^^the goaltender in the middle had a son in school with me and jakeshow...they used to live on a cul-de-sac with a big steep hill behind it so it was in the shade all winter, the whole thing was always ice so you could play street hockey with a puck...and they had a real steel net and boards around the end. there would be these sick pickup games down there I remember having to walk home bleeding like, a lot of times.

Ruutu is one of the BIGGEST cheap shot pussy mangina artists to have ever played the game. He talks a lot of shit, takes cheap shots, and for the most part doesn't back it up. Even Esa Tikannen backed his shit up.
