Big Daddy vs. Blower??
I am looking for a ski to take out on bigger to really big days and think I have narrowed it down to either the 06 Big Daddy or the 193 Blower. The plus as I see it on the Blower are the traditional shape and camber working better as things are tracked or when you are working between stashes. The Big Daddy seemed to be much more stable in the pow and the tips seemed to stay up on top of the snow carrying more speed. The negatives are that the Blower didn't seem to float all that well and I wonder what it is like in knee + deep? Is the Big Daddy overkill on anything under knee deep snow? Is there anything else out there that I should consider instead?

the big daddy has killed everything I've thrown at it this season. The bumped out trees under temerity kinda sucked, but were manageable.
I guess I'd say there is no such thing as overkill."The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" --Margaret Thatcher

I was in the same situation as you and went for the BD's. Very happy with my choice as the rule on the big pow days and handle the packed snow without problem. What really rocks about these boards is they float so well but can easily adapt when condition get skied out or change.

Question on the BD's as I picked up a pair but haven't mounted them yet. Are you guys mounting on the line or back a bit? Also are these things easily smearable?

185 Blowers
I know nothing of the BD's but the half day I spent on my new Blowers only proved that my ski fitness was not up to the ski. They work great, the same can not be said of the pilot at this time. I ran them in knee deep love coming out of the sisters at Snowbasin and they are rockets. You can stand on them and they will destroy anything that get's in the way. Ask MOE about the crud bumps I pounded out coming right at him, I think his words were, "they were just exploding when you hit them". On hardpack they feel like super G race sticks, virtually no speed limit. Same goes for pow and crud. My only issue was that my gimpy ass could not keep up with them and once you get behind them there was no way for me to get back on top of them. I need some more time under the squat rack it would seem. Hopefully I'll be dialed in on them before I head to Retallack in 3 weeks.
FYI: I'm mounted 2cm in front of the RIDE line on the sidewall. The tips are soft, about the same as the Made in AK, but underfoot and in the tail they have some muscle and require a very centered and aggressive stance. After trashing my legs the day before I simply was not strong enough to be on them and feel really solid. I was either ripping or retarded on them. There was no middle ground. I know this was simply due to having only been on snow 4 days after 2 years of being re-built.

Blowers are awesome boards. That being said, I love my daddy's and I'm happy with my decision. Can't go wrong with either if you ask me.

I'm riding the 193 Blowers aswell this winter. In light dry pow, I really could not sink the tips of them if I tried but otherwise, they are sinkable. That said, I think I like to be very forward compared to most. The size of these things is inspiring for maching and dropping. Bumps they a chore (surprise surprise). Like it was said before, on hard pack groomers they really do feel like a fun super g ski that you can lay over.

So hold on...the BD floats BETTER than the 193 blower...how is that possible?
(this is a serious question as I just bought blowers and sold my BDs)
Forward mount perhaps? or are the pilots that didn't like the blowers tip drivers? Are they huge people that need a stiff ski? I demoed the 185 in some day old chalky pow type stuff and since I was used to my BDs I was totally overpowering the tips for a run; then I figured them out & centered myself and had a blast. Easy, fun & fast...great tree ski yet handled straightline speed & chop nicely....so from that experience I ditched the BDs for some 193 blowers. Nothing wrong with wanting to work less for the same result is there?? I bet Phill's issue with the Blower is probably that they are soooo differrent from his squads and take a completely different style.
This discussion does have me wondering if I should mount them behind the ride line though.

Corky- I think they are talking about the Big Big Daddy @125 underfoot. But your right the Blowers are closer dimensionally to the old BD.
For those on the new BD, what is the camber and tip shape? Are they traditional everywhere else besides the pintail?

Yeah im not sure what you gu ys are talking about, the blowers are awesome. And how can you say those things dont float well, those are some of the most stable floaty boards I have been on. I love mine but have to sell them for cash reasons, pm if interested(193's with p18's)

I have the blowers and like them. They are weird in a way. Initiate turns easy, but still really stable. Carve much better than 05/06 gotamas with more power in the tail and a bit more shape. They love to haul ass in everything. Tail is not as "smearable" as the gots. More of an enormous GS ski feel.

I have to agree with everyone here praising the Blowers. They are kick ass for pretty much everything. I am 5'11" 160lbs and have the 185s mounted at 'Ride'; they float really well. There are some days when I wish I was on the 193 though.

because they are an enormous gs ski, same construction as the softest gs ski and straight from the italian race room. I have been skiing this ski all winter and it is one of the most fun skis I've been on. I have stomped everything since being on this ski. On landings you don't even sink in you just land and accelerate. The only gripe I have is that they look like they have too much camber (i.e. the very end of the tip and tail are the only things touching and the rest of the ski is a gaping hole), but once in powder I have not noticed any problem they sink into the snow and feels like surfing. as far as smearing, yeah it is a bit stiffer but the size and shape make it really fun you just have to put a little more power into it. I really can't say enough good things about this ski I almos pulled the trigger on some ARGs, but got these for free and now I can wait a year before jumping on the powder specialty skis

Yeah they do have a lot of camber, maybe too much for this kind of ski, but it should mellow out after usage. Another negative is the edges are not as thick as they could be. Because these handle harder snow and crud so well, they may become my one quiver ski, which is kind of insane at 110mm. I hope my ankles don't rip off.
