my new Volkl Karmas - UPDATED
I just picked up a pair of the new Volkl Karmas today. The shop I bought them from in SLC (Sports Den) apparently got 2 pairs from the Vegas show, and I now have one of them. They are a completely new ski that is replacing both the V-Pro and the G4. They told me I would be the only person in Utah riding these (besides the sponsored pros), so thats kinda cool. Here are the specs:
-177cm
-119-87-111
-full twin tip
-sidewall construction
-sensorwood core
-metal layer under the topsheet
-double thick base for rail durability
-grip tape-like top sheet (like a skateboard deck)
They are Volkls so they are gonna be bombproof, but that makes them a little on the heavier side. Should be the perfect ski for all mountain with some park days here and there.

I probably shoulda posted this over in Tech-Talk, but I am just too excited...I had to show them off here. I'll update this post once I take em out tomorrow morning.
UPDATE:
Well after one full day on em, I can say that I am very stoked on these skis. They are stiff enough to bust through all kinds of choppy snow at high speeds, while still having enough give to make quick little hop turns when the trees get tight. I did a couple little 3's off of a natural little kicker and they were pretty easy to get around. They took a little more effort than my old Darksides, but it was still no problem. I had one pretty nice double-eject (Mr. and Mrs. Altagirl and powho are witnesses to this) when I got backseat off a 15 foot drop to hard snow...I basically bounced off the tails when I landed and spun around backwards and on my head...good stuff. The skis held up great and even survived a couple high speed rock hits with no damage. Very happy with them overall, and I can't wait to get back at it tomorrow.
crinkle: Yes I did get a job, actually 2 of them, but have yet to start either...I am just spending money I hopefully will have by the time the credit card needs to be paid...Last edited by smiTTy; 02-22-2004 at 05:48 PM.

Sweet! Really want to know how these ride. My G4's are going to need replacing soon and I need something to fill my 80mm hole.

If I didn't live in the Mid-Atlantic icebelt I'd buy those...

for each length, a la 1080s.

I thought Volkl stopped using metal (titanium) under the topsheet after last year. My local shop guy returned 11 pairs in 80 sold due to the skis bending just behing the binding.

You lucky bastard.
-
02-22-2004, 08:09 PM #23Yeah, because volkl is breaking new ground here in ski technology by using metal in its skis besides the edges. Unless of course, you're a light one and are worried about not being able to flex/bend them.
consider my quiver consitst of iggy's and explosiv's I am not worried about flexing them .......... but I have seen volant's that look like spatulas after some idiots get done skiing them
