We watched that the other weekend... I wasn't overly impressed. The fox talking kind of ruined it for me. Definitely disturbing and f'd up though, but I felt it got a little stupid.

Bad Boy Bubby - slow beginning, very disturbing (think I got my lifetime fill of BBW in the first twenty minutes), but got increasingly funny once Bubby got out ... another epitome of this thread

Man Bites Dog - LOVED this film. Thought the actor portraying Benoit played the part perfectly charismatic such that you'll probably find yourself admiring him by the end.

Just saw Antichrist, I think the self-genitalia mutilation from that chick just about wrapped it up for me. Kind of wish I didn't have Mexican food beforehand. Too much grotesque imagery for the sake of being grotesque, I would watch Requiem a 100 times over before seeing that stupid Danish movie again. Defoe should go back to being a gay FBI agent.

Ohhh but I like the song Franz Hanzerbeak...

Eraserhead, no question. Mullholland Drive, eh.

Sticking with Lynch, just saw Lost Highway last night and it completely shits on MD. Such an excellent film that I see a good part being borrowed as the key element to the last 10 minutes of 25th Hour, although LH was far more intense and mind-fucking.

ugh. THAT is liable to be fucked up,but in a bad way...

lots of films to second here as most of ones i can think of were mentioned:
    el topo
    holy mountain
    eraserhead
    tetsuo
    gozu
    ichi the killer
    visitor q
    Stroszek
    jan svankmajer's Alice

ill mention a two more herzog films:
aquirre (not exactly fucked up but certainly not mainstream)
Even Dwarfs Started Small (this is seriously one of the most ridiculous films i have ever seen.. it is beyond fucked up...)

    Svankmajer:
    Faust
    Little Otik
Conspirators of Pleasure (sick twisted festish stuff done with stop time animations)

    If you like svankmajer's animations:
The Films of the Brothers Quay
    Institute Benjamenta
    Piano Tuner of Earthquakes

I think Clint Eastwood's High Plains Drifter is rather fucked up film.. probably his best too.

Touch of Evil is really fucked for the 1950s

Donnie Darko had it moments for sure.. apart from the cheesy 80's music videos shit.. but what can you really expect from a student film? (apart from eraserhead.. sheesh!)

Also a few people mentioned cronenberg..
cant believe Naked Lunch wasnt mentioned..
eXistenZ was pretty good although not entirely fucked (like his earlier film: videodrome)
I thought spider was excellent, although a bit slow.

lastly to bring it full circle:
Fando y lis from Jorodowsky is perhaps his most fucked up and surreal, having caused a riot at its premier at the 1968 Acapulco Film Festival

I wasn't going to go through the whole list but the sorta weirdest movie I've seen in a theater was "pi" except not in words but the mathmatical symbol. Same director as Requiem for a Dream. "Pi" won awards at some important film festival. Very independant film that was only shown at the uptown theater in MPLS (at least around here).

    Hi there,
You know.... It occurs to me reading through this thread... How screwed up do the writers of these films have to be in real life to come up with many of these story lines? That's an entirely different topic, but perhaps they should seek some help or maybe the movie is their therapy?

This is kind of off topic, but popped into my tiny brain nonetheless.

^^I gather that when Lynch was making Eraserhead, he pretty much locked himself in a room with matresses on the walls for days at a time. Once the scene was finished, he would hurry out of the room and begin filming immediately, even if it was 2 o clock in the morning.

    Primer - A good mindfuck.
The Bridge - A fucked up documentary.

    These are both on YouTube.

Yes, they have. The Vanishing is a re-make of a 1988 film, Spoorloos, which was mentioned above. I only saw the '93 version, and it def. was fucked up.

I would not have considered it "fucked-up" enough for this thread, but since some apparently do, there is another film in the same spirit that comes to mind, The Pledge with Jack Nicholson. I thought this was a very mind-fucking flick.

you will have to read subtitles but it is totally worth it
Well since this movie was 10 plus years ago and on BASIC CABLE (like nbc, cbs, abc etc) this will probably be pretty pathetic. The worst movie I have seen, which still tears at my soul to this day, was Pretty baby. A little child, totally coming on to a man in his mid 20's to 30's, and she (4-10 year old brook sheilds) seduces him?????

This affected me worse than when I was 13, and all the girls were taken from class so the boys could watch deliverance, and see male on male rape. WTF WAS WRONG WITH MY SCHOOL?? I SHOULD SUE THEM FOR THE DAMAGE THEY DID
I have to wonder how the non mainstream tv version was!!

Requiem is one of my favorite movies, but what exactly is bad about it? I thought it was sad, but not in the least bit disturbing, at all?

    Really? No, Really???

    ***Warning! Spoiler!!!***

You didn't think a beautiful young white girl having to suck black dick and ride a double headed dildo for an audience to get heroin was disturbing?

You didn't think the image of a blood poisoned, gangrenous limb with infected, blackened, pus-oozing wounds was disturbing?

You didn't think an old woman trapped in a psycho ward being electrocuted was disturbing?

You either did not even watch this movie, or you are completely fucked up and disturbed yourself.

Have you seen any of the other movies in this thread? First of all, it didn't actually show here sucking his dick, and it hardly showed the dildo thing. If you watch any of the weird ass porn nowadays, you'll see stuff much worse than that that is real. The limb was just purple around the inside of the elbow... Kinda nasty, but can't really be compared to something like the end of Audition or anything else in this thread (or even a lot of normal mainstream movies nowadays). I didn't quite understand the psycho ward scene, I thought they were trying to help her, but I wasn't sure. Overall, I didn't think that this movie was disturbing in the sense that you are saying that it is, rather, like I said, just very, very sad

Not as in-you-face trippy and fucked as others already listed, but thought Timecrimes (Los Cronocrímenes) was fairly good in a subtle way.

EDIT - more I think about it, this is one solid flick that will leave you pondering the events depicted days after viewing. While the plot is very easy to follow, it's more difficult to fully understand.

I agree. I've seen lots of fucked up shit but not much has disturbed me more than this movie. I think its more the downward spiral that ends with everybody all fucked up. I felt like I needed a shower after watching this movie. I would never suggest to anyone to watch this movie. I have told more than one person that I would suggest not seeing it.
