My friends think I am crazy

In addition to associating my name with "crazy" way more than I've heard it with anybody else (it must be another of these xenophobic French-related things), they also think I am obsessed with skiing...

Yesterday I was having drinks out, and at some point my friend Lisa says: "Hey, I just invented a new drinking game: every time Dr. Crash says 'ski,' someone has a drink."

    I'm not alone, am I?

a long time ago i learned not to speak of skiing unless someone else mentions it first. Otherwise, yes, you will be deemed a raving lunatic.

It's called "monomania" and it means you're boring to almost everyone you talk to. The disease is incurable but you can control the symptoms. While you might think this website would allow you a means of assuaging your urges, all it does is compound your obsession.

    Good luck.

I was out drinking with the GM's from two michigan ski areas this weekend, and they both decided that I am a "ski geek", as I know way more about skiing then either of them.

You are most definately not alone.

You're not alone. You should have turned to your "friend" and said "awesome, maybe all the liquor will finally make you more interesting than skiing"... or something like that, as I am sure they are all nice people.

I recently found out that when people at work think I'm in a bad mood, they get me talking about skiing, and then I'm happy for the next few hours.

Ironically, the reason I appear to be in a shitty mood most of the time is due to the fact that I am thinking about skiing and pissed off that I am at work.

    You're not alone.

My co-workers get the look when I start rambling on about the ski / mountain biking fun I had over the weekend / weeknights. They're pretty good about it though, they let me ramble on (I'm pretty sure they're not really listening though) and although they don't "get it", they seem to appreciate the dedication. And yes, I've been called "crazy": I take is as a compliment .

Luckily, I come home to someone that is just as crazy as me and seems to REALLY enjoy when I ramble on about skiing . He even likes the same type of bedtime porn as me.

Always been my relationship regulator... in high school my very large and stern father made it a rule very early on that I was NOT to mention skiing... then I remember it tragically happening on my mom's side of the family, too. My ex-fiancee (luckily bailed out) even instated that rule. She would roll her eyes and go talk to her girlfriends on the phone whenever we started talking about it. THe way I've learned to see people: those who can talk about skiing for ever and ever and ever (I think they made a forum on the internet for us) and those who are lame and pointless with which to interact. No, I'm not going too far with this one.

Note: i'm in a multi year process of trying to inject some depth into my character by finding things OTHER than skiing to talk about so that I can have regular friends and conversations also... thus far they both seem overrated.

I guess its all about who you surround yourself with...I guess my enthusiasm for skiing is infectious and engaging, that I've gotten quite a few people back into skiing. Those that don't give a shit, have told me they admire my passion.

I've definitely become more obessessed with skiing now living in Vancouver, its been exponential, its crazy! So when I go home to Toronto, I'm sure my friends out there will think I'm a little obsessed, but how can they understand when they have a such boring skiing in Onterrible.

I made the mistake about a week ago of showing my co-workers, who are mainly 40+ (I'm 24), some video of some of the skiing and riding that I did over the last year. Nothing really that great, but they think I'm even more nuts than before...
