$140.00 to ship my bike? whathemutherfuck?

Seriously, I go to UPS to ship my bike to Austin. I have shipped probably in excess of 200 bikes in the last five years...most I ever paid was $48 in the lower 48.
Apparently at the retail UPS counter, the BEST they could do was $140.00 for 49 LBS. What the fuck. I guess I have to fly with it. PISSED.

Try Fed Ex or find a shop that sells Cannondale and get one of their boxes. The box is like .5mm smaller than whatever the point UPS starts adding $$$ surcharges.

Too late. I also could use Jamis boxes, but it is just too late. I mailed this same exact bike in the same exact bike box last fall from Boise to Austin, and it was $42.00.

I hear you. FedEx price jumped from about $35 to $90 within the last few months for the same zone and weight. I almost could've ridden it there for less.

I shipped my bike from NJ to Utah via FedEx. I weighed it and measured it. I plugged everything in to the FedEx website and was told the charge was $450. Later, I found out the charge was $105. They will wait a long time before they see that green.

I ran into the same issue recently when I went to a UPS store to ship a bike. It was going to cost over a 100 bucks to ship a 34lbs bike. Then I tried the UPS distribution center and it cost me $36 instead. So if you're town/city has a Fed-Ex or UPS distribution center, I would try there first. Places like to UPS store mark up their prices to boost margins. Hopefully that helps.

I went to the UPS distribution center, the same one where it would have cost $60 if I had mailed it through the shop one hour earlier. Fucked.

Just had the same experience myself today - UPS store in Staples wanted $50 to ship a kayak paddle to OR. Granted it is oversized, but weighs under 5 lbs! I think I paid ~$15 through USPS last time.
