Global warming, skiers are the problem

You know the more I think about it, us skiers/boarders are hypocrites. We want snow, we want powder, we like winter, but then we drive SUVs hundreds of miles contributing to Global warming. I was reading Ski magazine and 1/2 of the adds were of SUVs getting 14mpg.

Here's to another rotten year of snow.

It's because Vail didn't switch to wind power until this year....

While my Suby only gets 25 or so to the gallon on the way to the snow I completely agree with ya.

Want to start up a way for local powderhounds to access the goods for less cash and less carbon footprint. Like a nice biodiesel panel van with roof rack on top. 8 passengers, 25 bucks round trip. We pick you up. You sleep on the way. (Further destinations possible.)

    Anyone wanna finance me?

    Edit....

And the town of Aspen, correct me if I'm wrong, has free valley bus service and encourages the driving of hybrids, by making parking discounted or free on streets and in structures.

(Which is kinda cool considering all those rich fucks driving escalades, and exhibitions.)

    What does "JONG" mean ?

And even a civic is contributing to global warming. It used to be you could get good powder through March, but now it is mush by Feb 28th. It's got to stop now. I think we need trains.

I think to help lesson our carbon foot print, we should only buy skis/eqiupment locally. To fly skis (such as Atomic or Rossi) all the way from Europe contributes a lot to the problem.

Vail Addict, while I hear what you're saying. Its not all doom and gloom. We can reverse it if the institutions change over the next 10 years. When a change is first demanded at the grassroots level and then institutions, say Virgin, get in on it, then perhaps it won't be as bad as they say. What would happen if the institution of skiing showed that they could cut back by powering more lifts exclusively with local wind power?

But, looking outside here in pdx where the temp is climbin' to 85 on Sept. 24th makes me wonder.

Were not hypocrits man. Just answer me this. Have you ever tried to get down a mountain, at night, with a foot of snow everywhere on the roads, in a Civic, that has shit all clearance room and no 4WD? During the winter when I do work on the mountain I drive a Jeep and I need to cause it sure comes in handy when the conditions for driving are royal shit. I wouldnt consider myself a hypocrit cause hell, if I didnt have that Jeep I probably wouldnt be able to access some of the places I go to ski.

    Ski Magazine sucks.
    So does Vail.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

Gentelmen (or should I say Jongs),

Let's keep this civil. I think I bring up a good point that all of us in ski country should be concerned about. I was like a lot of you denying global warming until I saw Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth. It was an eye opener.

Carbon emmissions are up 47.5% since 1986!!

And hey Astropax the fudge, you such a whimpy man you have to wear mittens in March? And by the way, you have too much upper body rotation, you look like a boarder.

Hey summit, looks like you are out of bounds up by China Bowl. I've got friends at Ski patrol. By the way, nice Christmas ornament on your head. That helmet is too ugly. Are you wearing mittens too?

    1. Astopax and I are the photographers, not the skiers.

    2. The "head ornament" is a fullface helmet. I guess you wouldn't know since don't need those on the bunny hill.

    3. You know a ski patroller? Really? (Me too!) Gosh! Turn me in! I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!

    4. Nodoby is denying global warming.

    5. Do you really think your posts are novel and groundbreaking? STFU, JONG!
