    (NSR) RIP Croc Hunter

Just heard Steve Irwin, aka the Crocodile Hunter died in some kind of marine accident. RIP.

    That's tragic.
I enjoyed his show with my kids years ago.

    ++VIBES to his family.

Wikipedia is claiming a stingray barb through the chest. News says nothing.

Props to the man who had more passion for his work than anyone I know, and best wishes to his family.

    just read this too:

It is believed Mr Irwin's American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and is yet to be told of her husband's death.
RIP Steve. This is a tough one considering he was a genuine guy and stoked about life, his family and all things in nature

    CRIKEY!

Associated Press confirms... says "marine accident"

I hope he got to stick his thumb up that stingray's bum before he went out.

RIP Steve. You entertained me and educated people about nature a lot.

Bummer. In spite of some of his antics, the guy genuinely loved animals, from the least to the greatest.

Very sad, he was a cool kind of guy, but I am amazed he lived as long as he did. He sure had a crazy streak in him. He had a zest for life, I only hope he want out doing what he loved, there is no better way to leave this world.

    Peace to his family

RIP! A stingray stike to the chest sounds awful! I'm guessing he was swimming above it & it freaked. This seems like an unusual way to die? anybody ever hear of it before?

I've certainly heard of it happening - the barb, especially on bigger stingrays, is easily big enough to puncture vital organs

Pretty awful way to go. +++vibes to his family, but I guess at least he went doing what he loved

Wow. Kind of a freak thing you'd only think could happen in a movie.

News on Yahoo says he was doing some filming in the Great Barrier Reef on his boat. The stingray barb apparently punctured his heart. The rays I've seen that are anly about 2 1/2 feet wide still have a nasty 2 1/2 barb and thats the visible part.

Sad to see as he definitely lived life with gusto. Vibes to the family.

The barb is also venomous, can cause infections if caught quickly, and will cause death through stroke/heart attack like symptoms if not, I believe. He got it right in the chest, so had no chance...

Cradle Mountain overland track which is the most likely trail she could be on is a 7 day hike. No cell phone coverage from waterfalls till you get to derwent bridge then it's still patchy. Lets hope she is either near the start or the very end. What a thing to happen on fathers day of all days. I was talking to one of my friends back home and she was saying last week there was a new add for australia zoo, with Bindi playing and saying "you might even see my dad" heart go's out to the little ones.

I find it odd that the press has been notified before his wife... isn't it usual that the next of kin has to be told first?
