Is it just me, or did most of those guys look like they were way back seat?

I got beat twice -- They sure do like to turn... a lot. And they sure do like to ride those tails... a lot.... You'd think at the "ESA" somebody would let them know, but whatever...

    Who edited that?

Don't they know the beat is supposed to line up with the pole plant? This lack of synchronization makes it unwatchable.

Awful, awful music... much better muted.

yes... too many turns, dropped hands, skiing in the backseat... but that's why they're there- to improve. Also, I'm guessing some of the runs with all the turns were part of a drill.

I believe the guy doing the 360 off thecornice is Nick Herrin, PSIA Demo Team member. Fantastic skier.

I was at snowbird two weeks later... wish I had the same conditions they had.

For me the stoke factor is very low here.... IMO mainly because most of the people in the video look like they are participating in a ski clinic where they are actually trying to ski slowly, many turns, no hint of aggressiveness. This skiing style seems to be pervasive with alot of ski instructors and dentists who like to go on Heli trips. I also see signs of the classic gaper form, so maybe this is truely representitive of Gapic.

Turns on snow at the Bird, some stoke factor, +1 for Sept 1 viewing.

    ?

they are participating in a ski clinic... most of these shots were made for video analysis later in the day. I've never been to an Epic Acedemy... but they do have some fantastic instructors who are world class skiers in their own right.

My point as a response to "Stoke is Stoke, Right?" Instructional video= low stoke. Poor technique in instructional video = very low stoke.

And I don't question that some of the Epic ski instructors are good skiers, anymore than I would say most members of TGR must be good ones. The instructor in the vid looks decent. The skiers in the vid I would classify as "intermediate" at best.

Let me see if I can describe the experience of watching this video:

It's sort of like when an exceptionally dull co-worker corners you and takes advantage of your good nature to con you into looking at the photos from his recent family vacation to Mexico. You look, hanging onto a sliver of hope that it might be interesting, possibly even cool. Your hope, nay your very spirit is crushed as your eyes glaze over at the steady stream of photos of anonymous places and anonymous faces. Here's chubby little Linda feeding a an oddly sickly looking dolphin. Here's Nigel lying by the pool. Whoah, that kid must be at least 230 pounds. Impressive for a 6 year old. You mumble platitudes. You nod and 'smile'. You scream for mercy (quietly).

Well. I'd rather go through that than watch this video again.

No. Not really. Otherwise I've been having some fairly disturbing thoughts.

Yeah, there was quite a bit of slow, tentative skiing, but if you considered yourself a badass skier would you go to the Epic Ski Academy? Probably not. There were definitely some solid skiers in the group, though.

It looks like they got a good variety of conditions.

edit: the thought crossed my mind that I'd probably fit in well at the ESA, but I'd be too afraid of ridicule here if anyone found out I went! On the other hand, I feel like the str8line camp might be over my head.

Having not watched the video, I wanted to just call into question the possibilit of some irony here: Is it not ironic that we chide Gapic for their telling everyone how to ski, and we do just that? "Hands down, backseat," etc. seem to me like comments that belong on Gapicski...

Not sure how to turn off the volume, or else I'd watch the video. But something tells me that a clinic is low stoke. Someone being stoked on how much better he is skiing in this video might qualify, but just an instructional video (i.e. Advance to the Steeps, which I actually purchased) is not very high in stoke because it's not freeskiing--too regimented.
